Talking SWAT4 AAR for the Game Club...

As most reading this know SWAT4 has made it in to the Game Club Rotation.

Last night was Tactical Gamer's first official run at it.

We started with just a few people early on (around 3 or 4), and practiced and learned on the small easy maps... Like the "Killer in Fairview" mission, and the "Quickie Mart" mission.

All performed well since those missions usually only have a handful of bad guys. This is were we learned the basics, and differences of SWAT action compared to open warfare. We learned how to count to three, we learned how to enter a room in proper order, we learned how never to leave your wingman, and we learned the importance of fire control.

I have uploaded about 50 screens to my website of the action here:
    http://www.magnumland.com/screenshots.htm

But I will take a few of the best and explain each here. (they get repeatitive, the good teamwork ones are near the bottom.)

The first few will be from those early missions, then more later in the advanced maps with more people.

Our very first mission, we wedge the door to clear the outside first...

Our first wall stack right, not very tight but proper...

    Our first flashbang entry...

    Stacking up in close quarters:

    2 cover long, 2 control suspects/hostages...

Turbo and his "girly" uniforms...what a...

Our first, but not last, officer down of the night...

In small rooms, like bathrooms only a 2 man team enter the others cover outside...

Turbo using the optiwand to check the corner, of course I just used the quick peek (lean right) method...

    Officer down number 2...

OK...so we were learning on the early, easier missions... then we got a good team, about 6 to 8 of us throughout the evening/night... we went to the bigger maps, and the harder maps... the bad guys had body armor, so full metal jackets were the rounds of choice.

The tactical gamer members were fantastic, they picked it up fast, they learned the control needed for the game, they naturally followed the orders of there leaders, and they overall performed extremely well. You could tell that just being a TG member already put these gamers ahead of most others, they just had to learn a few entry positions and actions.

I've played alot of SWAT 4 since release, many times with other people and groups, (since SWAT 4 wasn't popular here yet), everytime it would take a complete night, to teach these people how to properly play, and still there would be 2 or 3 that "just didn't get it" by the nights end.

Tactical Gamer had it down within an hour, and by the end of the night, the last couple of missions...thou we had problems, alot of the movements, teamwork, and action was 100% spot on... It looked beautiful, and many times i wished that I had fraps recording a video of an entry, just to show the world how it's "suppose to be down"... by nights in you guys were fantastic.

Here's some screens from the later games.

Hotel room entry, this mofo ain't going no where...

Trooper...doing "something" with this subject in the bathroom...

Trooper using the door breacher shot gun... he loved the toys...

OK, true story...don't listen to trooper... I was assigned as officer 1, he was assigned as officer 2... I saw the subject run down this hallway, we should of stacked up and banged them move in proper order...1 and 2... BUT NOOO! Trooper decided to jump in lead, not only did he casually walk across a open door to the right without clearing it, but he was in front, when he should of been behind me, my cover...

well he gets up to far ahead and the subject kills him immediately, I'm trying to be a good, now the wingman, and stay with trooper, but know were over extending, I go to kill the subject but trooper blocks me so we both go down, probably by the same damn bullet... lol

So now Fish has to lead the 2 man team on the rest of the clear, they avenged us...

Quick peek right, while fish covers high...

So another officer down, Fish is alone to finish the task... he gets this guy a split second after the bad guy got an officer...

We complete the mission but four officers are down... it was nasty.

    Next mission...

Trying to stack up and they keep coming out, 1 bad guy down...

    2 bad guys down...

    New uniforms...

another mission complete, but look at those injure fellow officers, and unauthorized use of force violations...

OK now your getting bored, I understand... because SWAT is boring, just like real life 90% is boring crap, with 10% per adreniline...

Near the end we were getting good, stacking up was nice and entry's were nice. Understand that in real world a SWAT officer already knows his number, his job, and his position on entries... and the element leader is always the same... in game, the leader rotates, and you may be assigned different partners/positions... so it may seem too slow getting ready for entry, but in real life you would already know everything we have to talk about before entry.... So in game, preparing for entry is slow and methodical with a stack up, mirror under the door, orders from element leader, countdown and then action... the action then is fast and furious... the complete team should be in the room with 3 seconds of the first man entering, there should be sounds of clear, clear, clear, ringing the rooms...or engagements.

    Final mission, lead by me...

OK...this works better, I am element leader, officers 1 and 2 are in the colorful BDU's, and officers 3 and 4 are in the default... Trooper is back with me, he has the new flashbang grenade launcher, so he only comes up for special services...

OK OK, boyz will be boyz, someone decides to test his tazer on Trooper... funny, but very unprofessional... lol...

another good, wide stack... while one mirrors and briefs...

About to blow door, see the finger count by officer in front...

    door blown, flashbang in...

Team enters, notice that 1 blew the door, 2 threw in the flashbang, so 3 and 4 lead the entry...

Element leader comes in last, 1 and 2 move left while 3 and 4 go long right...

then we use trooper, there on my 11 O'Clock to secure subjects while 1 and 2 cover left, 3 and 4 cover long right... see there is a method to this madness...

We then move down, 3 and 4 lead and come under fire... we flashbang and enter open area as an element...

New door, new stack up, new plan...
1 and 2 on left, breach bang and clear, trooper is to shoot a flashbang from his launcher long, 3 and 4 bang and clear right on 3...

As soon as the door open, trooper goes down (thats why I hate the launcher, can't bounce it)...team still needs to enter...

Trooper dies, and to make matters worst... he dies picking his butt!

Another beautiful stack.. this was one of the entry's I wished I had fraps video recording.. it was beautiful, notice how much tighter they are then in earlier shots...

1 and 2 clear a small room on there own...

This is the warehouse, it's big... I split the teams and have 1 and 2 go high on the cat walk to cover and clear, while 3 and 4 and myself clear from one corner to the other... but something happened with 1 and 2 and I still don't know the true story... how can two highly trained officers be taken out in such a small, easy to control room...

I either needed more officers for that missions, or should of kept all together.

By the end thou, there was a hugh improvement in everyones performance... ok maybe not Troopers, lol.. just kidding bro.

Nice write up Magnum! I can explain what happened in the last photo. I mirrored the door, noticed two suspects behind the half wall in the small room. We called for a flash bang breach. I threw the flash bang in Fried went first with me going in right behind him. The guys opened up as soon as we entered. My guess was the flash missed because of the half wall, they sure weren't flashed when we went in.

I agree, the partition in the room must have blocked the flash effect for the suspects. They were in range of the flash, but were completely unfazed by it.

I get made fun of for having a pink crosshair in BF2... wearing a pink uniform in SWAT4 is far, far worse

Fortunately I couldn't see those skins from my end, or I might have had a hard time discerning officer from suspect.

I wish i could made it and attend the 1 hour Magnum training program - but the time offset is killing me. Any chance to get the next SWAT4 night started at 6pm "your time"?

What about backlighting? Has anyone played as a suspect and seen if the SWAT members can be backlit? That's what I noticied last night, if you want realism don't backlight the guy in front of you.

First thing I learned while on patrol when I was working nights....

That is a big problem in this game... your flashlight should only be used in a quick motion then off again IRL... but in game, you'll wined up dead alot more if you don't use your light. It's very hard to see in some of these maps without lights. and there night vision... IMO is a joke.

I look at it as one of the many sacrifices you have to make in the interest of game play.
