Re: TG Club Racing League - INFO
In my experience of racing games a keyboard with full TC and some ABS will still not perform as well as a wheel with no aids. Might be worth a test on this game.
Mirfee, maybe you could post a few lap times to compare the difference?
(ps. can anyone recommend a non-force feedback wheel with pedals?)Last edited by Wulfyn; 09-13-2006 at 06:22 PM.

Re: TG Club Racing League - INFO
I'll pass your request on to Turbo, who is far and away the most proficient driver I've seen yet... and on a keyboard no less!!! I'm sure he'll provide a better comparison between keyboard control and wheel.
I tried with KB and it's a disaster to say the least. I'm dangerous enough even with a wheel!!!
So Turbo. Hotlap with KB using full TC and ABS. And another with wheel and no driver aids at all. What say you?

How is the point system going to work Mirfee? I haven't seen anything posted yet.

Re: TG Club Racing League - INFO
I haven't had a chance to do a complete writeup yet (big art deadline tomorrow that's demanding my time). I intend to detail it all fully Fri eve or Sat and post before the race.
Crude explanation is this, though (and this is just my initial plan)...
- The point value of a given event is equal to the number of drivers starting the race. Each driver that finishes the race earns a number of points inverse to their finishing position.
Example:- 6 cars in a starting grid (call them Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, and Foxtrot).
- This generates a 6 point value to the race.
- If all 6 cars finish the race...
- 1st place earns 6 points
- 2nd place earns 5 points
- 3rd place earns 4 points
- 4th place earns 3 points
- 5th place earns 2 points
- 6th place earns 1 point- If any of the cars were disqualified, or did not finish, they would earn 0 points for the race. This does *not* redistribute the unclaimed points to the finishing drivers, however.
So that's the gist of it. I still want to work in some bonus points for Laps Led, Fastest Lap, etc (no doubt I'll need to tweak the point spread per race so bonus points don't overwhelm finishing points too much). The central idea here is to keep points determined by participants, and keep league standings close enough to maintain competition over a season (hopefully!).
Squid pointed me to a really interesting system that's been posted over at the RSC forums. It's far more robust and tracks a lot more info. And it does so automatically when you have it read some results file in the game directory. I'm undecided about using this, as it all happens on a third party website. I'd like to keep it here at home on TG. So for now, I'm going to flesh out our own grassroots league point system (in advance of the first race!
).

Re: TG Club Racing League - INFO
If I have some time I will stop by too. Still with a keyboard though, I will be in for a rude awakening when it comes to Saturday night and a wheel.

Re: TG Club Racing League - INFO
Rocket, there's currently no 24/7 server at TG for GT Legends. I've been hosting games on my spare machine. I don't leave it up and running normally, but I will fire it up for a while if folks give me some advance notice.
That said, if there's interest in a few folks getting together to practice tonight, I'd be happy to run a server. I have a ton of work to finish for a deadline tomorrow, so I can't likely join, but I am happy to let it run for a few hours.
Server info in this sticky thread.
From now through race day the server will be setup and running the same track, cars, and difficulty level as the actual race. It'll repeat when it cycles through the three sessions (Practice, Qualifying, and Race). I'll set each session for 30 mins plus a 20 lap race. That should give *plenty* of track time to get a feel for it. Note... Practice and qualifying have preset in-game time of day. The actual race time of day I can set, and it too will be the same as for race day (this one being 3pm).
I'll fire everything up around 9pm ET. I'll be working on the machine right next to the server, so I'll idle/monitor TS in case there's any problems and such.
Fire off replies if more than one of you guys will definitely be interested in this (otherwise, I recommend just practicing in single player with the same setup).

Re: TG Club Racing League - INFO
I'll try and pick up a copy of GT Legends sometime soon - rFactor has had me in its grasp for a fair while now, although manual shifting in the F1 cars is still beyond me

Re: TG Club Racing League - INFO
Sweeeet!
I'll be hosting another practice session this eveing if a few folks want to get in on it. I'll idle on TS starting around 9ET and see if anybody shows. Actually, there's a good chance I'll be practicing anyway, so I might as well do it on the server even if nobody shows. Again, probably starting around 9 and going for a few hours.
