Exclamation Tactical Gamer Promotional Video Contest: Demonstrating Teamwork

Tactical Gamer proudly presents:

A Tactical Gamer Promotional Video Contest!
"Demonstrating Teamwork"

Many of us were drawn to Tactical Gamer by videos posted to YouTube and other places demonstrating the kind of teamwork we didn't think possible without joining a clan or starting our own. The thought of a whole community devoted to moral game play and realistic, team based tactics was far-fetched given the amount of work and organization needed to start and maintain such a place. And yet, here we are.

Tactical Gamer needs new blood and fresh ideas to continue the tradition of excellence through teamwork and education to hold back the tides of spray and pray, team killing, ramming and bunnyhopping lonewolfs. As new games come, we want to add more servers to our umbrella of smacktard free spaces, and that requires more supporting members to pick up their corner of our standard. More community members alone will provide a richer social mix on our forums and on Teamspeak.

What better way to show others the path to our door than a cool promotional video displaying the very attribute that holds us apart from the rest of the gaming world?

All of you budding Orson Welleses, Stanley Kubricks, Martin Scorseses, and Francis Ford Coppolas, TG is calling you out.

Create a promotional video for TacticalGamer.com with the theme "Demonstrating Teamwork", and your efforts will be judged by the entire admin and game officer staff. The video can be anything you choose; comedy, drama, documentary or something entirely new. The best three videos will be picked, and not only will you get sweet, sweet bragging rights, not only will you be helping lead the poor lost souls home, but there will be some prizes in the offering! The winning will be uploaded to YouTube and other public video sites as part of a promotional campaign to lead a new generation of gamers in the right direction.

RULES: Tactical Gamer Promotional Video Contest "Demonstrating Teamwork"
  • The theme of the contest is "Demonstrating Teamwork", and even slickly produced videos will take a back seat to the one that best demonstrates the theme. Videos should advertise TacticalGamer.com and the quality of team play that one can expect here in contrast to most other public servers.

  • In-game content should be limited to TG server play, at least for this contest. This is a promotional video for our servers, since logging into the server is step one in the path to becoming a vital member of the community here at TacticalGamer.com. Submitters must be registered forum members (but not necessarily supporting members) in good standing for at least one week prior to submitting a video.

  • The video should display the Tactical Gamer URL and a Tactical Gamer logo at the beginning and the end. You could try the Tactical Gamer Identity Pack for resources, and Insunabula is busy working on some alternate images for your use, stay tuned!

  • We are looking for videos that showcase creativity, enthusiasm and uniqueness. You can pick your own way of "Demonstrating Teamwork" and shouldn't feel limited to traditional "pwnage" style video formats. Videos that contain inappropriate content, including but not limited to vulgarity, obscenity, lewd, pornographic, real life violent material (this is a war game community, so use your best judgement), or materials which disparage any person or corporate image will be disqualified at the judges' sole discretion. Videos already posted on YouTube or elsewhere may not be used. A new/original video must be created and submitted. Video must be made up of a significant portion of in-game footage, although any other imagery or footage is also allowed if it abides by the above rules.

  • One or two versions of your video may be submitted:
We must receive a YouTube version (conforming to YouTube video requirements), and one other size/quality video may be submitted for posting to other sites with loser size restrictions. Please see YouTube for the full list of requirements:

  • Game admins and officers will judge all of the submissions, and the top two will be chosen by Apophis himself!

  • We will continue to accept entries for at least 3 weeks, probably longer, depending on how many we get. Any entries that don't make whatever deadline we settle on for the initial contest will be entered into any new TG promotional video contests we hold, so don't scrap your project if it takes longer than you thought! Any entries that don't get picked for the top 3 entries are eligible to be entered in any future TG contests unless specifically mentioned. You may submit as many independent entries as you like.

  • Check back for instructions on where to upload your videos.

  • By submitting a video you agree to allow TacticalGamer.com the right to use, reproduce, display, transmit, modify and otherwise make use of your video and account name for publicity purposes. You also acknowledge that you are not infringing on rights of any intellectual property owner, and that any identifiable real life (not in-game avatar) person who appears in your video has provided express written consent to appear and passes along all rights for usage of their name and likeness for whatever use of your video TacticalGamer.com sees fit.

First, Second and Third place winners will earn the right to place a Tactical Gamer Embedded Journalist badge in their tagline for all to see and admire!

Second prize is 1 month FREE Supporting Membership! If you've always wanted to support TG but couldn't work a membership into your budget, now's your chance! Apophis is still working on the exact details, but most likely you will be issued a membership coupon that you may cash in at any time.

First prize will be 3 months FREE Supporting Membership!

Can submissions be made by a group of people or by only one person? I just can't imagine that anyone at TG would want to lonewolf one of these promo vids.

Absolutely you can work together. Obviously the prizes would have to be split up, or we could figure out something equivalent. I'll definitely work with you on the reward issue, I just want to see awesome videos!

Hey I know you mentioned that we can use in game footage. I suppose that we can also script events as well? I say this out of pure convenience of course and the fact that some things are quite impossible to capture in game.

Also are we expected to include many games or is it ok to hone in on one?

Re: Tactical Gamer Promotional Video Contest: Demonstrating Teamwork

Well I have a plea to all members of TG.

I'm going to try to work in footage from as many of the games that TG offers. My problems is that I don't own all of the games that TG members play, nor am I going to buy them all and learn to play them effectively in a three week time window.

So if anyone that plays the different games that TG hosts and you have the ability to run FRAPS or you already have some good ingame footage that you would like to share please post:

what game you play
if you have footage or if you are working on capturing some footage
if you would be willing to visit "pub" servers to get footage of non-TG playstyle
best way for contest participants to contact you

I don't know how feasible it is to work footage from all of the games into one ten minute video, however the broader the rage the better the chances are of getting some really good footage.

Thanks

EDIT: Anyone that wants to use any of my footage is more than welcome to it. hosted.filefront.com/catman1975 I had been letting my videos be deleted, but I will be putting them back up so that some of the newer members of the 8th can enjoy them

You certainly can script footage, but the objective is to show people that if they're looking for the best teamwork experience around, they should play on the TG servers and join the TG community. If telling a story is how you accomplish that, great!

You can include as many games as you want, but should at least include one that we host here at TG.

Porn won't win you any prizes, but if you want to send it to me Zoopy, this could be the start of a beautiful friendship!

This is a very good question, live footage only (whether recorded as you play with fraps or recorded afterwards from playback like battlerecorder file) or can you stage the teamwork as such ? In a short timespan of 3 weeks, staging has a practical edge.

Speaking of which, BR has been turned back on for the main 2142 conquest server.

Re: Tactical Gamer Promotional Video Contest: Demonstrating Teamwork

I probably won't have enough time, energy or programmes to get this done, even though I would like to...but I have some questions just in case these three things happen to arise.

Can I put something together and post it as late as mid-January?

Can I take footage from a pub server, or is it TG server only (and I know you said we can, but I mean, like teamwork on a pub server with TGers, not just showing how rubbish pubbies are?)

Is music with bad words allowed?
