WeGamer Desktop Recorder Review

This WeGame recorder shows promise !

Positives

It's free, and that's the full version that's free !

You don't have to dramatically lower graphics settings to record !

Most people when game recording have to to lower their video settings considerably to record
What is good about this recorder is the hit on FPS is much less, so you can still have higher settings and record !
I set Crysis to a video level where I was getting 68-75 FPS without recording
When recording with fraps I got 34-38 FPS (50% drop in FPS)
When recording with WeGame I got 55-60 FPS (20% drop in FPS)
The WeGame's videos quality is noticably less than fraps when playing the recorded AVIs in full screen
However when uploaded to WeGame or YouTube, the difference would be negliable because both sites compress for streaming anyway
In the trade off between recording quality & FPS loss, the WeGame recorder is just right, I reckon

The recorder is optimised for the WeGame website

It's easy to upload direct from the recorder if you want and the WeGame recordings are optimised for the WeGame website player

Negatives

There are some computer configurations where the recorder just crashes

It's in beta right now, so hopefully further releases will solve this problem

There are known issues particularly with sound

It's in beta right now, so hopefully further releases will solve this problem

Not all games are supported

The developers are adding to the list of games the recorder supports

Summary

As the recording drop on FPS is 20% instead of fraps at 50%, I would say this recorder has promise
Hopefully the stability and sound issues will be sorted out in the next month or two by a new release
As it's free, I would say try it now and test it out for yourself

Re: WeGamer recorder review

While this program sounds interesting, unfortunately it is totally useless to me as it "can not capture your sound".

A pity they dont give you more info on this error.--->unisntalled .

Bummer Al, here is video from one of our Modness nights. This was Battlepaint, which is the goofiest BF mod out there.

Re: WeGamer recorder review

For some reason, on my rig, the produced avi file is no good. It will not play in Media player, nor can it be used in Movie Maker or Vegas. When imported to Vegas the audio works, but all the video frames are black. Any one else have these issues? The first release 1.0.0 worked. The new version 1.0.2 is when this started.

Anyways, on my rig FPS with FRAPS has not been an issue.

Re: WeGamer recorder review

The one downer to this is that my Creative Labs Audio Synergy card is not working out so the only sound is me talking on my mic. The program is great, otherwise.

Re: WeGamer recorder review

The thing about the current version of the beta is that its black and white, it either works or it doesnt

I expect them to sort out the tech problems and produce a stable recorder and then its popularity will jump as the hit on FPS is 20% compared to fraps at 50%

Thats why i wrote it has promise.

Re: WeGamer recorder review

I understand Silver. I'm just throwing out my experience thus far. I look forward to them sorting out the technical issues so I can give it further consideration. I like free too ya' know.

Re: WeGamer recorder review

It tanks my system (not nearly as much as fraps), but other than not being able to hear your own voice, it works well.

Re: WeGamer recorder review

I love it, uploading has never been so easy and it works along side Xfire... unlike Fraps.

Oh... and it 's free!!

I got the same error when the installation finished but it does record sound... it even records VOIP in BF2. So if anyone is talking **** to you on voip, just hit the record button and send it over to an admin .

Have you tried recording one or did you remove it right after you got the error?

Same here... reboot and you should be fine for the first recorded movie you play. If you try another one, it might be black again (what happens to me).

It 's still in an early stage of development, give em some time and I 'm sure they 'll fix all the issues.

I have the opposite problem (see the vid Lucky links as that is my perspective) it captured everything except my voice.

I love the ease of use though, as soon as it captures my sexy voice I will be completely satisfied.

Re: WeGamer recorder review

Yea I concur. It recorded 23 minutes of flight time without a hitch, encoded and uploaded it for me without a hassle.
Test video - http://www.wegame.com/watch/jj/

Its not recorded the sound correctly but I could get it working if I could be bothered changing my setup for a special recording, but I'd rather not alter a working setup tbh

When I took the footage and hosted it on stage6 divx host I was a bit disappointed with the quality. There is a high quality option but that does lag a bit more, not sure if its then still better then fraps for fps, etc

Missing or blank video in an editor can be down to missing codecs. Download a codec pack and see if that helps
