SPORE to be released September 7!

The latest, and quite anticipated, offering from Will Wright has just had its ship date announced.

The announcement came in the form of a video played at the 2007 Leipzig Game conference.

Get ready for the next Big Bang this fall! Electronic Arts and Maxis today announced that Spore™, the highly anticipated game from the creators of The Sims™, will be available at retailers worldwide the weekend of September 7. Spore will be available for the PC, Macintosh, Nintendo DS™, and mobile phones.

Spore gives players their own personal universe in a box. Create and evolve life, establish tribes, build civilizations, sculpt entire worlds and explore a universe created by other gamers. Spore gives players a wealth of creative tools to customize nearly every aspect of their universe: creatures, vehicles, buildings, and even UFOs. Players can then seamlessly share their creations with the world or explore infinite new galaxies created by other gamers.

I just read that. September seems like a long way off but I'm sure it will come quickly. I remember sitting in on the Spore demo @ E3 in '06 and it was pretty cool. Wright was showing off alot of the features and the game looked pretty well polished. Must be coming along nicely after all this time. I'll be waiting for this one.

I hope this game has a 'creation' option that avoids evolution. Picture a guy with a white beard and a stick behind that globe, like out of 'Evan Almighty'.

As it turns out, life evolves naturally in this game.. but you can give organisms sentience (via monolith) and they turn out somewhat like us.

This is one game I've followed from its concept and I intend to get it quick.
