Armed Assault - Warfare and 1.14 Final Patch
![]() Go Ahead and put ArmA in your cross hairs!! ![]() Announcing the 1.14 (Final) patch for Armed Assault. Over the past year and a half the game has grown exponentially, but was always seeming a bit handcuffed by bugs since its inception. With the final patch it consolidated various user modifications, Beta Tests and overall enhancements that were in the works for a long time. But believe it or not, Bohemia Interactive (BI) came out of nowhere with their entire addition of a new map and game play mode that has taken ArmA by storm, Warfare. For those of you who do not already know there were only 2 maps on ArmA. The missions themselves were based on those large scale maps, even though there were infinite possibilities for mission creations. But with the new map (Southern Sahari) it opens up even more possibilities for mission creation. That added to the much more robust mission editor will lead to countless new twists on the Armed Assault Community. But the addition of a new map and patch are overshadowed by the totally new style of game play that is so addictive. Warfare has combined various styles of game play and brought it into the forefront of fun. For those of you who have been following the game, it is a combination of Capture the Flag, Evolution, Domination, and various other MODS over the past year. BI created a format in which you now have a leader that controls virtually all aspects of playing. This includes designating what type of team they are (infantry, mechanized, e.t.c) and what their order are. ![]() The format itself is either 16 players (8 vs. 8) or 32 players (16 vs. 16). The teams can be configured however you like, the empty slots can even be filled by AI which are much improved in their realistic aggressiveness towards fighting. The AI now have the ability to be much more realistic by acting more human in flanking and playing like a human. ![]() Now with total control, they have added components from other genres like a RPG/RTS where as a Commander you have to construct a HQ, then barracks, light factory, etc. These structures are your main base for building vehicles to support your battle efforts at the front. Now before you can build all of these things, you have to build up “supplies” which is collected from doing supply operations to and from the various cities that you control. The game grows constantly with the scope getting greater with the more cities you capture and hold. Tactics and team play are stretched to the limit by everything that is going on around the map. Which is another improvement with the real time tracking markers now provided standard in the missions. ![]() ![]() The final winner can be decided through various means. You can either set the mission at the beginning to have a value of tallying points, a set time, or unlimited which means all approximately 20 cities are controlled by one team. ![]() With the improvements to the game itself, they added things like static defenses like machine gun pits, AT, AA, and Grenade launchers positions for a more defensive role. The most exciting piece of new equipment that is now built in the game is artillery. By far, this adds so much more to an assault when you now have the ability to soften up a position by calling in fire. Previously this was done only with a 3rd party script that was written into the mission by the creator. Now it is a fully functioning aspect that can add a bit of “boom” to any tough battle. Now before you think this might get boring or repetitive, think again. You start in random locations on the map at the beginning. This 1st two minutes is critical for the rest of the game, spawn in a bad location and stay there and you may be having a short night. You have the ability to adjust where you setup your command post and run your operations. Take all that into account, than throw in a unpredictable human against you and this truly leads to some exiting times. Think this all to much to understand? Think again. They actually included a detailed manual that pretty much covers what is addressed above, plus so much more!!! Manual Come find out what all the hype is for yourself. You will not be disappointed. This is looking crisp and as my interest in CoD4 has dropped off I'll have to get my self into ArmA again.
I'm a little caught between the quick jump in of cod4 and the deep immersion of ArmA. This new map & patch does look interesting though I must say. I've not read up on it all yet, how does the jump in and out work with this new map/patch for ArmA. Is it quick and easy like Evo used to be or is it much more of a long time trek. Great read Big C...Excellent write up.
@ Barnaby...after a 6 or 7 week hiatus from all gaming I downloaded and fired up the new ARMA patch last night. I jumped in, asked for help as I was new to the mod and was taken under the wing by a more experienced player. It seemed chaotic, probably because of my inexperience, but also well ordered, as there were effective leaders directing operations. And that last part will be the key....effective leaders running operations. I'm looking forward to spending more time learning this mod and I know if there is a public server anywhere that can produce games that have effective leaders it's got to be on the TG ARMA servers. I'm with you Barnaby. I have stopped playing Arma for various reasons and been a solid COD4 player for months but COD4 has its limits.
I still enjoy COD4 and will continue with it however once my new system is up and running I may be able to finally play Arma again with decent frames. This sounds promising if the game also doesn't crash on me all the time. I may be able to finally really enjoy it! ![]()

I haven't played ArmA since its inception. Maybe its time to dust off that CD and give it a whirl. This gives me much to think about.

Sounds very good. I've said for a while I'll be getting this game, and I still very much plan to do so. I guess I'm one of the few lucky ones, I get to come to a ArmA with an experienced, solid and growing player base, and one that has been patched and fixed a lot, and with additions like this being made to the game all the time, I really can't wait to get this.

Arma always had my interest! Now that I got a new computer I can think about playing this thing.
Warfare looks good! But! 16 vs 16 in a HUGE map? isnt that like boring? Sure the teamplay and real life warfare is fantastic but I think you are looking for the other players to much? Or isnt that the case? And this game has VOIP as well right? I loved Project Reality. Played it with some TG'ers and it was ace! Project Reality was ACE on almost any server because of players needing to work together. Hows that on ARMA? |

With ArmA 2 expected to be released this year, I'm kind of holding off buying ArmA, but this may change my mind.

I must say this new patch is great I always loved arma but now its better than ever and in all the warfare games ive played all i have seen is team work and not one moment was boring to me I found it to be realistic and fun i enjoyed warfare much more than Project reality
