Thumbs up ArmA 2 PC Gamer Event

Gentlemen! Stand easy!

On Sunday last, the 30.08.09, TG was proud to welcome to our servers Evan Lahti of PC GAMER magazine. Evan had been kind enough to get in contact with us, after having heard about our pretty unique community through a friend. Asking for a Sunday Event mission to be laid on to show exactly what we can do, TG was only to happy to oblige.....I think it shows great promise that TG ArmA has built upon the huge success it had in ArmA 1, to have such high profile guests contact us asking to write articles not just about a specific game, but about TG in general. Great work by all involved, and it is a testament to TG that we may just be doing something right! So with Evan embedded as a Journalist, TG once again went to war.....

Mission Briefing:

"The Battle of Ia Drang" - Made famous in the movie "We Were Soldiers"

Special thanks to Nthamma for this and other outstanding missions at TG!

Your objective is a suspected concentration camp where we will be going on a search and destroy mission. From our primary FOB, we will head to the frontline and a designated LZ named “X-Ray”. In order to establish a foothold for the primary assault, we need to hold LZ X-Ray until we are sure we can move on, once we have confirmed intelligence of the suspected concentration camp location. The initial hold of LZ X-Ray is the key to this entire mission, if we lose too many men here, we have no chance of completing the key mission objective which is the concentration camp.

Full Mission Briefing available to SL's prior to kick off (PDF)

The AO

The Frontline and Support

The Gritty End...

Now, not be it for me to try and provide a full battle report, as I was just one Soldier in a unit of nearly 60, I shall instead link you all to the AAR:

Ia Drang After Action Report

Rest assured a full Battle report is on its way in the article....

Evans TG ArmA article will be in the December edition, available from the 23rd of September to all US PC Gamer subscribers. So make sure you go out and buy it!

Mostly it'll be the narrative of our battle, though. I'm planning four pages for it, which is really significant--we'd usually reserve that kind of space for a big review.
Following the mission, SL's and select individuals were available in TS for Evan to Interview, giving real life information, location, and their own experiences of what makes TG ArmA so special, how they found TG, and a Battle run down. Now with all that said, and everyone looking forward to the article, I will give a thank you to everyone who attended, making the event a huge success. Special thanks of course to the mission designer Nthamma and the Commander, Blackdog1, and all the SL's. And a big thank you to BIS for a great game, and just hot of the press, perhaps even fixing VON.....

And also a big thank you to Evan for joining us in what was a particularly hard fought battle, against overwhelming odds, one that we only just succeeded in. If I do remember correctly, I think I saw a War correspondant wondering round with a loaded M16 at one particularly hairy point....

Now for some more sexy images....

Re: ArmA 2 PC Gamer Event

Congrats to the Arma admin team for putting together these routinely successful events and growing the TG Arma community to where it is today.

Awesome job to the participants of this particular event and the subs that stood by and stepped in to fill the gaps.

And thanks to Evan @ PCGamer for joining us and writing about TG and Arma.

I had a blast playing the missions. It was definitely a defining moment for TG, it really showcased the style of play we have as well as the core of leaders that were able to pull off this event.

Good job to all that participated!

In my 3 yrs as being part of TG i think everyone past and present Admin, GO, and TG supporter has been working hard to see this day. There have been hills but alot of hard work as gone into this and everyone should pat themselves on the back for such an occassion.

Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others

Re: ArmA 2 PC Gamer Event

One of the best missions I have had the pleasure to command! It is a frantic mission with never ending AI attacks on your LZ. The mission challenges the CO, Squad leaders, Fireteam leaders, Artillery Operators and Helicopter operators to ALL work together.

We had a couple of FF incidents where a couple of lessons were learned on the battlefield, thereafter we had squads working superbly well together, very much what TG is all about....

Two of the best moments for me personally were the insertion.... Squads disembarked and set up a defensive line as Helo's lifted up and gave line formation fire support, all the while Heavy Weapons MG's and Mortars and artillery were raining fire into the western tree line to give cover to the grunts seting up their defensive positions.....

The second..... Having sent Alpha to help with the Recce team and HW team on the nearby hill, I called for EVAC for Charlie, Bravo and Command element..... In came the MH60...I got everyone on board WHILE the enemy continued to attack and suddenly realised there were no more seats left on the MH60 Bus!!! Dammit!

So having sent the bird back to base, I then hot footed it under fire up the hill to try and catch a ride with the HW team...again we sent alpha and HW team back to base and then I jumped in with Recce team and headed back.....

Mission Completed!!!!!!! Good times!

Re: ArmA 2 PC Gamer Event

I have been gone for awhile dealing with real life, but check back here often for the latest news. I am impressed with the leaps and bounds TG has made with the direction of ARMA 2 and the players. It is nice to see that TG is getting the spotlight for all of the work put into it.

Keep up the good fight and doubletap the ones that fall.
