Battlefield 2142 Security Updates and New Map Forthcoming In 1.51

With the recent release of the Battlefield 2 1.5 patch, hope ignites for TG BattleField 2142 players. After last years 1.5 patch, there is once again an update coming from DICE. According to an interview by Total Gaming World with Barrie Tingle, associate producer for Battlefield 2 and 2142, some of the improvements from the recent Battlefield 2 update will be carried over to its' frosty counterpart.

According to Tingle, some of the improvements in the BF2 patch included server stability and security improvements as well as closing off some cheat functions that relate to the commander assets. Tingle said that a 2142 version of the patch was also in the works and it too will address the security concerns of the server. There was no specific mention of any server stability fixes for Battlefield 2142 since Tingle only specifically said security updates would carry over. Tingle did not want to comment further so as not to give the advantage back to the cheaters. We do hope that this small update will help.

The other addition of the 1.51 patch for Battlefield 2142 is the introduction of a new map. In the BF2 patch, the map is called Operation Blue Pearl and it appears the map name will roll over into 2142. In an article on their Battlefield website, EA says,

“Reading the feedback you guys give us in the gaming forums, it’s been clear to us that the game was lacking in a tight infantry map with the PLA army involved. So we set out to create a map with that in mind and this is the result of that. That map, which we have called Operation Blue Pearl, will appear in the upcoming Battlefield 2 Update 1.50 and Battlefield 2142 Update 1.51.”

Hopefully Operation Blue Pearl will be a map that will allow some new tactics, other than what we have come to expect in the stock maps, and really allow for some great Tactical Gaming. Screen shots from the TGN preview can be found HERE.
