The guy mentioned above that looks like the guy on the cover was KIA. Someone on realitymod.com posted this about it:

Re: EA Reinvents Franchise with New Development Teams, New Soldier, New Setting
I'm quite excited for this game, I loved Allied Assault (first FPS game I ever played), so the MoH series has always had a special place in my heart.
Sorry to be a pedant, but Kasserine Pass was in Allied Assault: Breakthrough.

Re: EA Reinvents Franchise with New Development Teams, New Soldier, New Setting
Lol, exactly what I first thought

Although it will be interesting how they do modern day combat. Will they really go the COD way and make a run 'n gun frag fest, or will they make the battles bigger and more squad based. (Like Battlefield) With MOH / DICE I figure the later. But who knows?

Am I the only one who is absolutely captivated by the dude in the picture and what his story might be? Also, I tried to search if he really did get KIA and found no proof of that article. He is not listed among medal of honor reciepients, and the pictures from Life were taken in August. Also, that beard just rocks.....

Re: EA Reinvents Franchise with New Development Teams, New Soldier, New Setting
The invasion of Sicily and the fight for Monte Cassino along with the landing at Anzio were all in Breakthrough also. Add the expansions plus the first to Call of Duty and you've done near every scenario possible for the European campaign in WWII (other than maybe playing as German or a little more Russian). Add the (albeit not that good) MoH Pacific Assault and CoDWaW and you've done most of the Pacific front too.
Also, I had seen the pictures of the real dude before but I always thought he was some sort of Private Military Contractor or somesuch with the beard and the lack of a real uniform in the pic with him and the choppers.

I had seen the pics like that with the beard too, but I assumed they were old from the early part of the war. The early special forces were allowed to have beards but then were told to shave them.

I like the pic too. Maybe the guy went undercover for a time? A CIA operative hiding out with the Taliban.

Re: EA Reinvents Franchise with New Development Teams, New Soldier, New Setting
The way I see it, the grass is always greener on the other side. There will always be people complaining about the genre and setting of the story. I hope for four things, an in depth campaign, a photo realistic setting, coop options, and a believable original story. COD MW and MW2 were good beginnings to this new paradigm, but I am sure there is nothing but improvement to come.
There will always be world war games, both fictional and non fictional. While some of us crave the sympathetic feelings that the historical accuracy can deliver, there will always be those who are more interested in modern methods and cutting edge experience.
Me? I just hope its a good game, no matter what the setting. I feel honored to live in a time when we get to play FPS's at all.

Re: EA Reinvents Franchise with New Development Teams, New Soldier, New Setting
Yea, maybe a good idea when it's often reduced to the sort of zombie nazi material approach. I've been reading A Bridge Too Far (the historian Cornelius Ryan) and, according to his research, the German commander assaulting the Arnhem bridge was going to resort to shelling the buildings that he had failed to take. He decided to give the occupying British a chance to surrender because "they had fought so well". When asked something like "Surrender?" by a German soldier with a flag the British "misunderstood" and said that no, they would not accept the German surrender and they had no room for prisoners anyway and sent the German on his way.
I liked the original Brothers in Arms games where they would say "poor fellow" when they shot someone down. A respectful change from the usual "just kill the enemy" blood fests.Commandante Poet-Soldier -{[Another-World-Is-Possible]}-

Re: EA Reinvents Franchise with New Development Teams, New Soldier, New Setting
I enjoy the WWII shooters and the recreating of real battles. Hearing that tell-tale ring of that cartridge holder kicking out when the last round is fired. I'd still like to see the battles in the Ardennes forests, (ala Band of Brothers) although I sometimes feel like I'm in the Ardennes when someone jumps on one of the grenade launchers in OFP-DR. I think one of the WWII shooters tried it with a snow covered night mission that kind of sucked. It wasn't a COD though.
But on the other hand, we all know who we'd like to be shooting at with FP shooters, and COD MW and MW2 come the closest to giving us that chance. (Notice how I stayed politically correct and did not say Osama or any of his buddies at all?). Nazi's are fine, but haven't we killed them all by now? The Russians took the butt whipping of all times with the original versions of OFP and Resistance. They threw up the white flag when we killed General Klink or whatever his name was.
In ArmA, I couldn't stay connected long enough to know who the hell I was fighting with that crappy piece of software. So bad it was that I still refuse to try ArmA-2
The only problem with MW2 is that aside from a kick-ass single player where once again, you have your nose up the squad leaders butt following a yellow brick road, and needed supplies and arms light up in bright gold colors, the MP sucks pond water.
In the MP version, I feel like I'm at a carnival shooting ducks and watching stuff pop up on the screen telling me that "You won (fill in the blank), for killing a guy that just killed you!"... or "You won (fill in another blank), for killing a guy that just killed your best friend", yada, yada, yada. Half the stuff they gave me I didn't know what the hell it was or how to use it. I kept waiting to win some fairy dust or a magic potion to kill all enemies. OK, I'm stretching it a bit now, but hopefully some of you know what I'm talking about.
The original MW MP was pretty darn good. So good that I burned myself out on it playing so much. I was a licensed killer with that single shot un-scoped rifle. Loved that weapon. To me, MW2 is for kids with the reflexes twice as quick as a cat. The "point and shoot" aspect of MW2 left me wishing for something like OFP-DR ...without all the bugs.
Take your pick... strategy, skill, a plan and a good aim or MW2. However, I will give MW2 a big atta-boy for some really nice graphics. But for me, OFP DR gives me that little bit of realism I need to make it interesting... It just needs to be freed up from all the gameplay issues. After all, it only takes one "awww sh*t" to wipe out a hundred atta-boys.
Just my opinion, and like butts, everyone has one.

Re: EA Reinvents Franchise with New Development Teams, New Soldier, New Setting
Political correctness ? How about not the WOT but the WOPC ? The War in Political Correctness. You too can say things in a free society without being beaten to death ! Osama ? Towel heads ? Three trillion of military hardware to shoot a few Shepherds in a country of a few tribal towns ? But what do we get ? Beards ?!
Nazi's ? I find it interesting that the tag line of the Eve of Destruction BF2 mod is ...
( Source )No other military conflict is comparable to those dramatic years of the 20th century. Most rumors spread about the Indochaina and Vietnam War are not honest, even though it was the best documented war in history. No other military conflict was ever so controversial, pointing to an unloved fact: our enemy was not the only source of evil, the evil could be found within ourselves.
Killing endless hordes of Nazi's seems to be a way to pacify our own Nazi behaviour, and to be honest it just gets incredibly boring. Why not put a few difficult issues in video games ? Look at FarCry 2 and the dialogue of The Jackal talking about how the "good" west keeps conflicts going in Africa for it's own purposes. Even Mercs 2 with their hilarious "FTW" graphic ...

The soldiers in that Allied Nations base go around chanting "USA! USA!" and then apologise and change their tune to "Allied Nations! Allied Nations!"
No coincidence then that EA sacked and obliterated (as Mathias would say in Mercs) Pandemic Studios - the creators of Mercs 2 - before announcing this new Afghanistan based MOH release. Man just give me a video game I can appreciate

Re: EA Reinvents Franchise with New Development Teams, New Soldier, New Setting
It wasnt a problem with WW II movies, also younger players might enjoy a wwII shooter with modern technique and there will be one and then some more.
Id like to see vietnam era games. Too bad big American publishers are afraid to step into a political swamp or something. Hopefully foreign houses will make games around that theme, the way it happened with Vietcong, made by the Czech.

Thanks for injecting a load of rhetoric into the discussion over WWII computer games along with insulting my apparently unhonorable service in Afghanistan and Iraq, along with all us other dirty veterans from around the globe who've slogged through the sand over there.
