EA Reinvents Franchise with New Development Teams, New Soldier, New Setting

Medal of Honor returns to the front lines, this time in today's war. For the first time in the franchise's 10-year history, Medal of Honor is leaving the WWII theatre and putting players in war-torn Afghanistan. Electronic Arts today revealed that in 2010, Medal of Honor, an all-new first-person shooter game, will introduce the Tier 1 Operator: a relatively unknown entity directly under the National Command Authority who takes on missions no one else can handle. The development team has been working closely with Tier 1 Operators from the U.S. Special Operations Community since the earliest stages of development to create the most authentic modern war experience. Inspired by real events, Medal of Honor reveals the mission of today's most elite American soldier - his will, his mindset and his uncompromising professionalism.
Medal of Honor is being built with a best-in-class single-player campaign. The Medal of Honor development team at EALA has been hand-selected by the studio leadership of General Manager Sean Decker, Executive Producer Greg Goodrich and Senior Creative Director Rich Farrelly. To compliment the single-player experience, EALA has enlisted the multiplayer expertise at EA DICE. This team will develop the multiplayer experience of Medal of Honor. These two studios are coming together to deliver a world-class Medal of Honor that is poised to re-set the franchise for a new generation.
"When we first set out to reinvent Medal of Honor, we wanted to stay true to its roots of authenticity and respect for the soldier but bring it into today's war. The Tier 1 Operator is the most disciplined, deliberate and prepared warrior on the battlefield. He is a living, breathing, precision instrument of war." said Greg Goodrich, Executive Producer, Medal of Honor. "We are honored to have the rare opportunity to work closely with these men to create a game that shares their experience."
"EA has always been an advocate for telling the soldiers' story. The new Medal of Honor follows that tradition. We felt it was important to tell the story of today's war and today's elite soldiers via today's most relevant medium - videogames," said Sean Decker, VP and General Manager of EALA. "We are so proud to bring together two powerhouse development teams to make this game a reality; EA Los Angeles and EA DICE. Medal of Honor promises to be an unforgettable entry in the modern shooter genre."

Re: EA Reinvents Franchise with New Development Teams, New Soldier, New Setting
Who the ********************** wants a single player campaign of the same arcady **** as the last XX shooters. The title is probably the one thing they still have a chance of not screwing up though.
They can still rightfully change it to:
Medal of Honor ZZ-TOP
Medal of honor was good anyway, only until EA got their hands on it and the good staff went to make COD 1, and no doubt all those capable people have moved on again. Just repeating this so the youngsters don't forget the history of this once great franchise. What it's like to play online games as a grown-up:http://s3.amazonaws.com/theoatmeal-i...e_gaming/1.jpg

I think it 's rather sad they took the CoD path... instead of sticking with WWII. Too many modern shooters these days and too few WWII shooters.
DICE doing the MP might be a good thing though. EA messed up multiple times with Pacific Assault, Airborne and a couple of other MoH titles so hopefully DICE can make something of it.
... really miss the good old days of an M1 Garand and a Mauser rifle. I still have a website running from Medal of Honor Allied Assault... used to spend days/weeks modding for this game. Shame EA got their hands on it and never delivered the same qualtiy as 2015.

Yup
Totally right ghost.
-It should be a past theater, one where there were still heroes. Bolt action rifles ftw!
-Dice will be decent for MP, but it will be another all platform title so it will be like 16vs16 or something max. What it's like to play online games as a grown-up:http://s3.amazonaws.com/theoatmeal-i...e_gaming/1.jpg

There have been approximately 15 trillion WW2-themed games on the PC. It is time to move into a different era.
Interestingly enough, the cover character may be influenced/be a real SF dude:

That time was 5 years ago, we haven't had a decent WWII shooter since. Hardware has improved and there 's tons of things a dev can do now to make it interesting again. Maps can be made much bigger, player count can be increased to 100+ players and Direct X11 can make it a whole new experience.

Is this going to be a new line of MOH releases? MOH Philippines (1900), MOH Suez ? MOH Palestine ? MOH Northern Ireland ? Georgia ? Nicaragua ? I can feel my chest swelling with pride.

Re: EA Reinvents Franchise with New Development Teams, New Soldier, New Setting
Maybe. That period of history is a huge sink of endless scenarios. The only reason we see the same old battlefields is that devs and researchers stay with the same old clichés, not because of some lack of historical sources. Read books by Cornelius Ryan, or delve deeper into WW2 than Vera Lynn songs (bless her) and there is an astounding amount of history that went on in little more than five or six years.

Re: EA Reinvents Franchise with New Development Teams, New Soldier, New Setting
Nobody's going to recreate Kasserine Pass, Hurtgen Forest, the airborne drops in Sicily, or the late war battles in the Italian mountains, or any of the other dramatic fights in WW2. Your right, there's a long tapestry of stories, but all the popular history has been drained. I was surprised to see Peleliu in World At War, although - surprise - we're transported in a dual campaign to the Battle of Stalingrad and later the Battle of Berlin.
Hey, I get that WW2 provides some epic material... I'm just wanting to see the source material be given an extended rest.

. The original Allied Assault community has been waiting for almost over a decade for a real sequel, believe it or not.
