Battlefield 2 Screenshots
Battlefield 2 is coming out in a couple months. For those of you who haven't followed the news, it is the next release from DICE and EA Games in the "Battlefield" line of games. IE: Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam.
Battlefield 2 looks like it's going to be a stellar game. Go check out the Battlefield 2 screenshots in the Gallery and take a look.

Here is an excerpt from the Battlefield 2 site:
In Battlefield 2, players will choose to fight for one of three military superpowers: the United States, the Chinese, or the newly formed Middle East Coalition. Armed with the latest modern weaponry, players can take control of any of the game’s 30+ vehicles to engage in major conflicts with over 64 players in some of the largest online battles on the PC. Additionally, persistent character growth allows players to rise through the ranks and attain the ultimate rank of General.
An all-new game engine and physics system brings the modern battlefield to life like never before. The new material penetration feature measures weapons’ ability to fire through barriers based on their composition and players will need to know the difference between concealment and cover in order to survive.
Battlefield 2 features immense, richly detailed, destructible environments, from city streets to remote forests, in some of the most notorious hot spots around the world. Each map in Battlefield 2 adjusts in scale to support the number of players in the world, providing the ideal vehicle- to-player ratio and an optimized gameplay experience.
Enhanced team play features allow players to enter the action on the front lines as part of a formal squad, or work behind the scenes in Commander Mode to direct the strategic assaults of their teammates.
Soldier kits now affect vehicles that players utilize on the battlefield. For instance, the medic kit can transform a vehicle into a mobile aid station and the support kit can make helicopters into flying ammo dumps.

Re: Battlefield 2 Screenshots
I've watched a couple gameplay videos (available through Fileplanet) and, as *stunningly gorgeous* as this game looks and sounds, it unfortunatley appears to be a *very* gamey arcade romp.

Well, I've watched all the videos released so far and haven't seen one that demonstrates the commander's interface with the game, nor have they shown any of the class restrictions.
The videos, of course, are going to highlight the action sequences and ignore any strategic play. Nobody likes watching a chess game...

It appears that not only do many people like watching videos of chess matches, they also seem to enjoy watching videos of lectures about chess. Ce nah.
As I guess many have picked up, for me the chess part of these games is as interesting, if not more so, than the twitch part.
Chess can be fun too, Cing.
I would just like to see a game that gives me the sense that you could drop an actual infantry platoon in against a bunch of 14-yr-old l33t hotshots and absolutely smoke them. I hope BF2 isn't a twitch fest.

OK, they're freaks... I like playing chess (badly), but I couldn't stand to watch someone else playing a game...
Anyway, my point was that the arcadey action is what makes a more exciting video. I think that the strategic and tactical portion of this game sounds pretty good to me...

OK, this was the info that was posted on alt.games.battlefield1942:
Quote:
From an EA investor earnings conference call:
http://investor.ea.com/phoenix.zhtml...ventId=1003431
Quote:
"Battlefield 2, the upcoming next game in the multiplayer shooter
franchise, has been pushed back from a March release to a release in EA's
first fiscal 2006 quarter (April-June 2005). Likewise the next console
Medal of Honor title will also be released in the fiscal first quarter
2006 time period."
|
|
I didn't register and listen to the webcast, so I can't vouch for the accuracy, but I have no reason to doubt the person that posted it...
