USENET feed integrated into forums.

As many of you have already noticed, we have integrated a USENET feed into the Tactical Gamer forums. This new USENET integration will allow Tactical Gamer members to read AND post in the USENET groups that we are currently carrying.

USENET is a network of computer systems that have agreed to share and maintain a huge set of electronic discussion groups, called newsgroups. Each newsgroup focuses on a specific topic. Messages posted to a newsgroup on one system are eventually distributed throughout the Usenet network.

At this point in time we only have a few USENET groups tied into the forums. If you have any recommendations for groups we should add, please feel free to send me a PM with the group name and I will endeavor to get it added to the TG newsgroup lineup!

Re: USENET feed integrated into forums.

I like it, but is there any way to filter the USENET posts out, so only TG forum posts show on the main page under "new posts" ?

There will be soon. Once I have the final configuration completed I am going to split off the New Posts link into two separate functions; new forum posts and new USENET posts.

When a newsgroup is first added, all messages stored on the server are downloaded and indexed, so it creates a lot of initial posts. After the first download only new posts are added so the volume is significantly lighter.

Cool Re: USENET feed integrated into forums.

I would vote to completely remove the Ghost Recon usnet catagory. Out of the first 10 only 2 were about GR the rest were boob size and p3n1s enlargement. Doesn't seem like a TG thing to me. Belive me I am not into sensorship but this ain't the place.

I see your point. That group has been removed due to the horrid signal to noise ratio..

Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Zephyr: Apophis is clearly a highly sophisticated self-aware AI construct that runs on a highly modified toaster oven in Wyzcrak's basement.

Back to our CS roots!

This is a good idea. TG members posting in usenet will attract new people. Is there no NS related group?

Re: USENET feed integrated into forums.

I noticed that forums sigs are included in the USENET posts. Is that something that can be disabled? Wyzcrak's sig is HUGE when it's plain-text.

Re: USENET feed integrated into forums.

I have not seen an NS USENET group.. But I'll look a little deeper and see if I can locate one.

As far as signatures go, those should no longer be propigated out on the net. I made that change this morning and will follow up on it later this evening to make sure its working.

The upstream feed also seems to append the forums username at the bottom of the screen near the automatic footer, I want to see if there is a way for me to modify and/or remove that so I can provide a better format for displaying the auto-generated signature.

If you're going to drop the GR NG for that reason, could you PLEASE drop the rpg NG for the same reason?

Looking at the RPG group, most of the threads I see are on-topic with a couple rare exceptions. Although that group is feeding like a bastard right now and getting ENORMOUS amounts of content pulled into it.

Hmmm, I guess I was looking at too small of a sample. When I looked at it, there was almost an entire page with nothing but off topic threads...

Can't wait for the "new posts" function to be segregated...

Is this a serious request?
