Ubisoft Cancels Ghost Recon 2...

I received a brief e-mail this afternoon from the Associate Online Marketing Manager at Ubisoft with some pretty bad news regarding Ghost Recon 2 for the PC:

Hey Paul,

I just got news this morning (the official company notice is posted on
the GR portal) and I'm now notifying our fan/competition site partners.

We're officially canceling GR2 PC. I was told that it's being cancelled
to focus on making a quality GR3 PC version--they felt that if they went
ahead with GR2 PC, either GR2 PC, GR3 PC, or both, would end up
suffering.

So, disappointing news, but there's a silver lining of a potentially
great GR PC title in GR3PC.

I'm pretty disappointed with this announcement as many of us were really looking forward to the GR2 release for the PC. I can't say as I am surprised though, especially looking back at the complete lack of representation for GR2 PC that Ubisoft had last year at E3 in Los Angeles.

I don't have much more to say other than I'm glad BF2 is still on the way and should be here for the summer. As soon as news is available for GR3 I'll get something posted.

<- hangs head..........

Let us all have a moment of silence for this loss felt the world round.

a truly brilliant light in a dismal world, GR2 will be missed deeply.

Re: Ubisoft Cancels Ghost Recon 2...

Well, that just saved me $50. I guess we can put Ghost Recon as a franchise to bed for the PC. If the sales of GR2 on consoles aren't enough to support releasing the game to its original platform and fan base, what makes you think they are going to release anything next round?

Well I wonder how UBI is going to send me a free copy of a game that doesn't exist lol. I hate that they are trashing it but from what I have seen of the PS2 version it's better That they do.

Apophis, you are in RI, right? There were, like, 50 copies at Gamestop in Copley Center, Boston. Didn't check EBX, but they always have extras. 45 minutes from Providence, as the speedtrap flies.

They almost did. There are still problems like any other game. The server list filter is broken for coop. It lists barricaded suspects instead. The player kickid command is bugged. They took out key features that were in SWAT 3. No team organization for coop. No leader. No orders through headcams like in SP. Map reloads after every attempt unlike RvS. The interface isn't quite intuitive. Try bringing up the map. You have to press one key then mouse over the map to enlarge. It should be just one simple key to press. No spectating options. No options for picking the entry point. No option for turning off the debriefing and briefing timer. The quick mission editor only designs missions for SP. Limited remote admin features.

The game play is fine but it's the limited features and bugs that brings it down. It's been great playing it so far but it's far from what I would deem satisfactory for the majority of players.

Yup! I actually hit a GameStop down here, that's the place that was sold out. I'm going to check the CompUSA up the road from my office this afternoon and see what they have...
