Re: Greetings from the Battlefront: World of Warcraft

Base monthly fee is 14.99, but some states now tax subscriptions (yes, I'm serious), which bumps mine to 16.31 if I remember (Washington state, and we've got one of the highest sales taxes at 8.8%, last I checked).

I won't deny that's a little stiff, but I figure that's a couple of movies in the theaters versus getting to play whenever I can or want during the month. Best part - I don't have to walk in and smell the d*** popcorn butter.

Well after you go out and pay all the money for all the books they put out for 2nd edition you'd be ticked off too. My group that I played with spent hundreds of dollars on all the second edition books and guides. We had a blast playing second and then they just suddenly make second obsolete. That's just wrong in my opinion. Second edition had a lot left to offer they just wanted to go to third to try and cash in that's all.

Sorry for the hijack guys but had to respond

Re: Greetings from the Battlefront: World of Warcraft

It's not really a hijack, the topic is just evolving!

And it's not like just because 3.5 was published people don't play 3.0, for example. There was a somethign like 6 month break between the first pressings of the 3.0 DMG, PHB and MM and the 3.5 ones. People wasted hundreds of dollars on source material for 3.0 just to have all the (broken) things taken out of it in a new rendishion.

For that same reason, you could still play 2.0.

Re: Greetings from the Battlefront: World of Warcraft

I still play 2nd don't get me wrong but Forgotten Realms was built in 2nd edition with the lands, races and heros that were introduced in 2nd. The 2nd edition gave the game depth that it never had before and they cashed in with all those little handbooks they released. In reguards to releasing third why couldn't they release a 2.5 and evovled the game instead of completely going to a whole new system making 2nd completely obsolete. That ticked a lot of people off that kept them from going to the 3rd edition

Thanks for the report guys. It sounds awesome. It's a crying shame all of my high level characters are on Aggramar (;_ ; ) And another shame I don't have the stamina yet for yet-another-level-60-marathon But I may come over.

Re: Greetings from the Battlefront: World of Warcraft

MMOGs were never that appealing to me - I find being killed by someone solely because he has put in 100 or so more hours than I have a bit irritating. But BF2, on the other hand....
Bullets. The great equaliser.

Re: Greetings from the Battlefront: World of Warcraft

I own WoW, but only played for a few weeks before quitting because I couldn't find a guild. As a TG member, if I start playing again, how do I hook up with other TG members in the game? Can I automatically become a guild member if I rejoin?
What is the name of the TG guild in WoW? Do you guys put tags in your character names like we do in BF2? Now that I know my favorite community has a guild in WoW, I want in!

Tell me what to do so I can join the fun!

Re: Greetings from the Battlefront: World of Warcraft

Man...soooo many good games and not enough time. I heard so many awesome things about WoW and have been very curious as to how it works. I don't have any friends close by with the game so I haven't been able to even sample some actual game play, however I have seen screen shots and read a lot of positive reviews- including this review, which frankly made want to pick it up. Target had it for $29, I was tempted... real tempted...I have guild wars and although it was fun in the beginning I feel that its lacking something and I'm wondering if WoW will satisfy that missing something. Maybe its more character development, maybe its more role playing...whatever it is I'm certainly considering buying it. That monthly fee has kept me from doing so thus far, and fact that I'm addicted to Civ 4 and BF2...

It is easy, Create a character on Thunderhorn Server. Choose Alliance. Whisper anyone of the officers in game (Alava, Kemotaha, Lunatg, Manetheren, Beep, Ricca, there are more.) and we will send you a guild invite. You can become a member that easy.
As for TG tags. We don't usually put them in the Character's name, You are welcome to but the guild shows up right under your name. The Guild's Name is Tactical Gamer.

If you do, let me know. I'm itching to start a Warrior, since it seems like the Guild is a bit short on "Tanks". It would be cool to have another 4Deuce member to level that alt with.

Re: Greetings from the Battlefront: World of Warcraft

You know, from Manny's post, it sounds like the Guild is only about the endgame, and is gearing up for only that.

Frankly, there is plenty of room for everyone. There are low level (<30) quests that require teamwork and communication to complete, and are every bit as much a part of the guild as endgame.

We also have a good core group of low level characters and alts (Apophis, Luna, Phantom, Gambit, Adrielle, and myself) that can help a newcomer to the game out.

World of Warcraft requires just as much teamwork, communication, tactics, and planning as any other game here. In some cases, more.

If you like that sort of gameplay, and you are looking for a change of pace from the shooters, get the game and give it a shot.

tru benefit of "endgame"

I've been around TG for a pretty long time and betaed WoW and played at release. My main beef with the game then was there didnt seem to be much to look forward to. As well, guild structure wasnt fully implemented and largely the gaming community was full of terrible players.

Alas, TG also DIDNT have a guild presence in WoW in the beginning. Largely, this is my fault (as well as others) for not really pressing the issue much at release, but it's also because of what I said above. I paid for it basically by getting to lvl 38 on a different server with a Horde character, then I just got bored and quit.

NOW, the current structure in WoW is conducive to TG simply because there is a lot more tactical play involved. Heck, when I was playing there wasnt even an honor system yet. Now you've got greater PvP, more instances, real RAIDS, and all the cool "endgame" stuff.

I see a lot of people beefing about the endgame focus thing. Fact is, TG will never focus on one thing in any game, nor do they have to. There are plenty of fine players to go around. Also, there's just plenty more to do besides endgame stuff... so even the 60's join in on NON-endgame stuff. The other thing is, MOTIVATION... without endgame in WoW at release, I lacked it severely and quit. NOW, I find myself yearning for the next level so I can kick arse later on.

This in itself is the tru benefit of endgame, it gives us more reasons to play. Aside from that, like Manny said, there's plenty of action at the lower levels. A good group can simply tear up elite quests and dungeons, and they can be just as fun as anything else. Also, once I get to lvl 30 I plan on wreaking some havoc in hoard-land.

Which brings me to the only thing lacking right now, and that's lower lvl PvP. It IS possible with good strategy and planning, even with half the player-base being level 60. You dont have to be lvl 60 to PvP. I used to break into hoard bases and camp there indefinitely in the past. The people I took with me praised the experience. 'Course, we're not on a PvP server so the philosophy is a bit different, nevertheless, it's just another aspect TG can get into.

All in all, I'm very happy I came back to WoW. Hopefully, I havent angered those in other TG games I've played for "selling out"... tee hee

So many games, so lil time...

Re: Greetings from the Battlefront: World of Warcraft

I've explored a little under 6 years of MMO gaming content. I've raised characters from childhood to manhood, and further. I've killed dragons, giants, even Gods. I have played the piss out of more than two MMO's in the past 6 years and I have plenty of experience.

In EQ2, I've moved from 20-32 in less than a week.

In WoW, it took me about a week and a half to move from 20-24.

The only reason I don't play WoW is because I am an EQ vet, and I see EQ2 as a much more interesting game.
