Game Club Week 1: What You Missed
I'm not going to make it a habit of posting AARs on the front page, but I hope everyone is aware by now that the Tactical Gamer Game Club is in full swing.
Every week, the Club gets together, and plays one of the titles we all have but rarely play. Last week, Operation Flashpoint kicked off the Club rotation. Attendees were: ![]() That is , Magnum 50, Munchkin, Pooper, Bodofoko, Bribird (no avatar), and Mateo. We don't have a forum or ribbon yet, but these gents have all earned access to them. Our mission was simple: approach the target village, eliminate the BMP stationed there, and bug out to the extraction point. Our intital approach In practice, however, the plan was not so simple. Even under the cover of darkness, they were ready for us. We were forced to take the objective slowly. ![]() Backing up Bodofoko We did get the BMP down, but alerted to our presence, the villagers did what they could to prevent us reaching the extraction point. ![]() Bugging out Our next mission was a pre-dawn assination, the targets being two local militia leaders that the Soviets propped up. ![]() Initial approach We crested the hill, and found ourselves facing a patrol on the road. We dropped to the ground, and saw what the MP5 was capable of at range. ![]() Sniping with an MP5 The road clear, we slowly made our way to the objective, and executed our orders. ![]() My friend, this is not your morning. All in all, a quality run, despite our obvious rustiness with the game. The night was bittersweet, however. Operation Flashpoint is the type of game that makes you think: why can't EA, Novalogic, or Ubisoft get to this level of detail? The game is that good, even 3 years later. A quick graphical update and an improved server setup, and it would compete with any squad level military simulation. Here is hoping that Armed Assualt delivers on the promises! The SpecOp missions on Operation Flashpoint are awesome! One of my favorites is finding a secret helicopter base and blowing up the Russian Hinds.

there is a remake of OFP comming out actualy in 08. I can not post a link but it looks sweet.
From an article I found: "The core of the game is the gun in your hand, and it either keeping you alive or not keeping you alive," explains Clive Lindop, the game's senior designer, when I meet up with him later on. "We've put an enormous amount of work into replicating weaponry, both in terms of the physical thing in your hand - models and texture-wise - and everything that surrounds it: ballistics, different ammunition types, weights of ammunition, characteristics of the weapons themselves." In fact, the type of ammo you fire from a gun will even affect its range and damage. Anal genuinely isn't the word. Codemasters are talking to veterans and serving soldiers alike (the dialogue and script are sent straight to the Army to check terminology and the exact phrasing), and a large number of developers are themselves ex-servicemen. |
