How are ribbons awarded?

Detailed descriptions of ribbons and their requirements will be posted in the general discussion forum, for each participating game in the next few days. If you see a member who you believe clearly meets the requirements for a ribbon, send your detailed nomination to the appropriate Game Officer (or their designated contact). In the case of Oustanding Volunteer, please send all nominations to me. The content of your nominations will be considered when admins vote, so make sure you include as much relevant detail as possible.

Please remember that the power to nominate a player is a responsibility. If you nominate a player, and they are subsequently awarded a ribbon, people will expect to see them exhibit the behaviour that prompted the nomination. Should the player fail to do so, it could make people think twice in future, as to your judgement in such matters. More importantly, it will give newcomers to our community the wrong impression. With sensible nominations, ribbons can give an excellent indicator as to who is proficient in any given area of a game.

If you are awarded a ribbon, you can subsequently be nominated for further demonstration of the same skills / conduct, either in the same game, or in a different participating game. A second award results in a class 2 ribbon (class 6 is the highest available). Here is an example of a class 1 and class 2 ribbon :

(class 1) (class 2).

Each successive class has an additional star, with a single silver star for class 6.

Once nominations are received, the admin team for that game will vote. For each class of ribbon, there is a requirement for a set % of admins to vote in your favour. The exact mechanics of voting isn't important, suffice to say the same guidelines will be applied across all participating games.

Wearing ribbons

Awarded ribbons will be announced in the relevant game forums. Once you have been awarded a ribbon, simply copy the image location in the announcement post, and post it into your sig, remembering to include the IMG tags. The size limit for signitures does not apply to ribbons ; you can earn the entire compliment of ribbons AND use the maximum signiture space.

Ribbons must be worn in the order listed above. Action will be taken against any member wearing a ribbon without authorisation.

In addition, there are campaign ribbons, which are awarded for some matches. An up to date list of all TG ribbons will be posted here

Re: TacticalGamer ribbons

Class 3 ribbons go before class 2, but class 3 ribbons should be organized according to that order, then class 2, etc, correct?

Do campaign ribbons still go in chronological order according to the campaign, most recent last? Is class precedence attached to them? And they go after the rest?

I take it we're moving away from BB code for all ribbons? Will that be going away for existing ribbons? (The mouseover is quite helpful, and will be even moreso with all these new ribbons.)

Re: TacticalGamer ribbons

The current plan, is that ribbons simply go in the order they were listed in my first post, regardless of class. Campaign ribbons indeed go in chronological order, again regardless of class.

Apophis and I are in the midst of discussing the mechanics of the ribbons, but it looks like BBCode is going to go. The images will all be moved to my TG webspace. Is it possible to do this and retain mouseover text?

Re: TacticalGamer ribbons

Mouseover requires BBcode.

Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Root: Welcome to TG. Feel free to punctuate your sentences correctly. Monkerz: Its gonna take all my skills to beat those boys off in the future.

This is correct. Unfortunately, the bbcode system (or any built-in vBulletin system) will make for slow updates for new ribbons and that is the main thing we want to avoid. Apophis would prefer to have each game's GOs and Admins organise their own ribbons, so as good as the rollovers are, they will need to go.

I have a much better system in the works however, where each sig will be auto-generated for each player using GD, NetPBM or ImageMagick (depending on which provides the best quality and performance). I intend each sig to be clickable to take the user to a page detailing all of the awarded ribbons for that player, including the date nominated and other data.

JMJ has already been diligently adding data to the database I set up for this externally, so we have a lot of very useful stats on ribbon awards that we might be able to use in the future.

It's been a long time coming, but the developments will be well worth the wait.

Bom.

Outstanding! Thanks for your efforts!

And you've got an automated system in the works, too?
