Armed Assault lands at Tactical Gamer!

The battle continues...

Armed Assault, the most anticipated tactical shooter of 2006 is finally here, and Tactical Gamer is taking the ball and running with it.

Tactical Gamer is pleased to announce its support and its new dedicated server for the much anticipated Armed Assault by BI Studios.

Armed Assault has not yet been released in the United States, but that’s not stopping the administrator and staff here at Tactical Gamer. We have decided to get a jump on this game, by supporting the German version of Armed Assault, translated using the much appreciated, but unofficial, 6Sence conversion patch.

Armed Assault is the follow up to arguably the greatest PC tactical shooter in PC gaming history, Operation Flashpoint. Armed Assault is made by the same team that made OFP, but CodeMasters is the official owner of OFP and its trademark and is not affiliated with Armed Assault in any way.

Game Information and features:

Armed Assault is a first person tactical military shooter with large elements of realism and simulation. This game features a blend of large-scale military conflict spread over large areas alongside the more close quarters battle. The player will find himself thrust in the midst of an engaging and expanding storyline, fighting against smart, aggressive enemies who will continually provide a challenge over a massive landscape.
  • Story driven single player campaign
  • Large scale multi player
  • More than 30 weapons
  • Vast environment to explore
  • More than 30 modern vehicles
  • Multiple gunners
  • HDR Lighting effects
  • Real constellations and tides
  • Built-in mission editor

Where Armed Assault will shine with the Tactical Gamer crowd, is the open sandbox of a virtual battlefield, where we can work together as a team against the enemy AI on cooperative missions, and eventually add support for massive force vs force combat action.

When you play on a Tactical Gamer server, especially with a game like Armed Assault, you will truly find the elements of good fun game play. Tactical Gamer is famous for it's dedication to playing the objective, working as a team, and using proper military tactics. If you've never joined a game on a Tactical Gamer server, do so with Armed Assault, just make sure you're ready to play the TG way.

Special note and warning:

It should be noted that Tactical Gamer will be supporting the German version of Armed Assault, patched to the latest version, (which is already included in the download version), and then patched with the above mentioned English conversion, until the US version is official released. When that happens Tactical Gamer will be taking down this server and replacing it with the US version. Now this shouldn't be a problem because most games support each different language version, and most like Armed Assault will also, but be warned it may not. Tactical Gamer is not responsible for your purchase of the game and the fact that it may not be supported in the US version. So please think and buy the German version at your own risk.

How to get it:

So where can you get the German version of Armed Assault. well if you have a proper contact you can have them buy the boxed version over in Germany and send it to you. it will work on your PC, (as long as you meet the requirements.) Or you can buy a digital copy and download it here.
This download version already has the latest patch, all you would need now is this English conversion patch.

Tactical Gamer Armed Assault server information:

Server Name: TacticalGamer.com - Armed Assault
IP Address: 64.34.201.27
Server Password: (None Assigned)
Game Type: Co-Op Mission
Player Slots Available: 64

So what are you waiting for. You can be playing the most anticipated computer game of the year, with people who know how to play these types of games within hours. You don't even have to leave your chair. While you download the game, be sure to check out our primers for tactical gameplay.

See you on the virtual battlefield, either as a friend or foe.

(special thanks to magnum for writing this news item)

Never heard of this, but it sounds good. Will probably get it after Christmas, have exams to study for...

Any sign of a demo?

There is currently no US publisher and thus no US release date. 505 games will be distributing an English version to the UK and Australia on February 16, 2007. That is the version to get at the moment...

Re: Armed Assault lands at Tactical Gamer!

More recent review of the game:
http://pc.ign.com/articles/747/747065p1.html

VBS VBS VBS... that's all I can say. Some of you know I've been looking for a cheap way into VBS for a long time - well, in reality AA is the best way for us all to get into it. BTW, VBS stands for "Virtual Battlefield Systems" and is a widely used proprietary simulation software for all kinds of armed forces and municipalities.
This has TG written all over it and is a VERY big reason why I'm currently working on an absolutely sick gaming rig so I can play it. Currently I cant as I dont even have a shader 2.0 card.

IMO, you're gonna need 2GB RAM and at least a DDR2, DDR3 preferred vid. card with 512mb on it. Dont touch the game unless you've got 2.5Ghz either. Otherwise, prepare to move all your sliders to the left.

1. There will be several online stores that will ship to the US upon release. Here is one site already up and running: http://www.armamods.net/catalog/prod...e_banner_id=10 (I did used to play some VBS1 with the guy who helps run this site, but I cannot attest to the safety and speed of purchasing through this site. Buyer beware.).

2. Also, I'm sure we have all made some contacts with some good friends living abroad...

3. There is always the possibility that an online distribution system will also be set up for the english version.

Re: Armed Assault lands at Tactical Gamer!

I seriously doubt only 500 units of this will be distributed. Perhaps BOXED yes. But the word on the street is most devs are shying away from pubbies altogether and embracing D2D and Steam.
I hope Arma is the same way. Physically buying anything in a box these days is quite ludicrous to me. All I want to make sure I have is a way to unlock the software (key, etc.).
Now, if it's some kind of "dongle" system then that's different. Is not VBS based on a dongle authentication? Where you actually need a physical piece of hardware to play?

Also, is ARMA open source in any way shape or form? Are we going to have Half Life-like customizability with this engine?

Re: Armed Assault lands at Tactical Gamer!

How to get ArmA right now.

Check out our ArmA forums, many questions are answered there.

Gambit, this game is massively customisable. The addons and mods is one of the reasons this games predecessor (Operation Flashpoint) was so popular. ArmA allows you to change everything from Textures to new weapons to new vehicles, missions, campaigns...you can even customise the AI!

Many of the TG oldies are saying this is going to be one of the biggest and best games that TG has ever participated in.

I have no doubt of this. We haven't had a game this good since Ghost Recon. OFP was a very dated game engine when TG started hosting it...

I have no doubt that it will do great, as well as balancing out the current list of "twitchier" games that we're hosting.

Someone needs to give Badger a call and get him back on the ACTIVE roster here!

Badger.. wow, where the hell is he anyways? I remember all those "find Badger" tournaments in GR. Never participated in one though.

As for ArMa, I've been lookin for an excuse to fool around with VBS and to me this is the best way. If ArMa is indeed nearly as customizable as VBS.

Also, as for the twichier games we host.. they'll be balanced out in Q1/Q2 of 07 when the big-wig newer titles release like GnH, Conan, and I'd like to say Huxley but it looks like they're seriously delayed

Tactical-MMO is the ultimate future of TG IMO... just gotta find a game that does it right.
