Post March Newsletter

Welcome to the second edition of our monthly newsletter covering gaming news that is related to Tactical Gamer. Any major, breaking game news, will be posted immediately, but the purpose of this monthly newsletter is to share the latest news and release information without tieing up space on the front page. Not all games will be covered in this monthly newsletter, just the ones popular and supported by Tactical Gamer.

March Tactical Gamer Newsletter

Dystopia Version 1, a cyberpunk MOD for the HL2 Engine, was released. TG has a big following for that mod and you can read more about it in the appropriate TG forum.

Project Reality, The project reality mod for BF2 recently released version 0.5. TG quickly launched a PR 0.5 server and has grown to be the 2nd most popular PR server and top US-based PR server. (according to game-monitor.com).
PR should be releasing a server patch in the next week to address several bugs. (editors note: this update was just released.)

Battlefield: Bad Company, did you see the new trailer for the next battlefield game. Pretty funny stuff.

Command & Conquer 3 released a demo for the game. It looks to be a good year for RTS games with the great, and highly respected, Company of Heroes, The just released, Supreme Commander (which by the way has a brand new patch out), and of course this, C&C is a highly popular series with the RTS fan base. Command & Conquer should be released sometime this month.

Empire Earth III has been announced, and Gamespot has an exclusive preview of the new game in another excellent series.

Theatre of War should be coming this month also, (editors note: I just received unofficial but reliable word that it will be released April 1st.) I have had a press release version but it wouldn't work with Microsoft's new operating system, Vista. I have since removed Vista and hope to get it running and sharing information about this game before release.

Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 has released a brand new map pack, this map pack is a collection of maps made by the RO community for a contest that was sponsored and hosted by the developers of RO.

Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 has gone gold, that means the 360 version will be released March 6th, and the PC version, March 30th. The PC version, just like with the first GRAW, was made by a different team, but under the same name of course. I am hoping that like what happened in the first GRAW, the PC version doesn't get released short changed, but we will see.

Rainbow Six Vegas will be getting a new set of maps and two new game modes for the Xbox 360 version, at a cost on marketplace of course. No word on anything for the PC version. Which was/is a good game, but clearly a port from the 360 version, which takes away from all the console goodies like built in comms, friends list, and tracked ranks. Not to mention the terrible multiplayer connect service for the PC version compared to the excellent XBL service.

I saved the best for last, Armed Assault is taking off like wildfire and I see no end to it.

First off, the English import of Armed Assault, by 505, version 1.04 is selling like mad. By the time you read this a v1.05 patch should be out (editors note: It is out and TG has 2 servers one private and one public, so get it and lets game.) that makes all versions of the game compatible with each other. Not only that but the 1.05 patch adds a ton of fixes, along with alot of customer comment changes. Just take a look at our Armed Assault forum, especially the post and videos by Dslyecxi.

Also, you will be able to buy a digital download version of the game, new version 1.05, from Sprocket.

If that wasn't enough it was announced that Atari will be releasing the US version in May. But to be honest, how can you stand to wait that long? We already have 2 servers up and running. I see a long and bright future for this game especially with the community support that the OFP series and this game have had already.

In other news: BlackFoot Studios:
For those that played the original Tom Clancy games (Rainbow Six, Rouge Spear, and the original Ghost Recon), this is exciting news. Jon Sonedecker is a game developer who worked with Red Storm Entertainment during this Golden Age of Tactical Shooters. He eventually broke off and formed his own company called Blackfoot Studios. Until recently, BFS had mainly done outsourcing work for bigger development teams. However, their new project (unnamed) is turning heads of the people who once so loved the Tom Clancy Franchise that has since been straying away from its glorious beginnings to focus on console game development.

the end
(PS: you can add any important news I missed as a reply, this is just the basics, game admins are encouraged to add info if needed.)
