Point of Existence: Developer Interview

The Point of Existence 2 mod for Battlefield 2 is set to release on Friday, July 20th according to their recent news post. We're expecting great things out of this next release. A few of the developers took some time to answer a few questions about the upcoming release. Check out the interview below.




Interview

(TG) Could you give a synopsis of this upcoming release and what direction PoE has decided to take it?

(Mullet) In our upcoming release our focus has been on two main areas. The first was to polish up any bugs or balance issues that have been hanging out there since our last patch. The second of course was new content for all factions and the addition of the USMC.

(Jilted) Our other big thing is the fact that we are looking to get back into smaller and more regular releases.

(TG) What features has PoE incorporated that no other BF2 mod has?

(Mullet) Well it is hard to say what another mod might have or will have in the future as there are so many talented teams working on mods for BF2.

(TG) What is PoE doing on the game-mode front? What enhancements have been added to the existing game-modes and what new game-modes might we expect?

(Mullet) Incursion is a new game mode that we are launching with our next release. It will be featured on Olesko Castle but if the community enjoys it and runs the game mode more, we will add it to more maps. Same with any game mode we have.

(TG) The commander chair regularly remains empty on most mods. What features, if any, have been added to entice more players to step up and play Commander? Or what features have been added that makes the CO a requirement for the team to excel?

(Jilted) Dice has really limited our ability to change much of the commander mode.

(TG) The community at Tactical Gamer prides itself in balancing realism and squad-based tactics with fun in the games and mods it focuses on. How did the PoE team go about balancing realism and action/playability?

(Mullet) We tried to look at things from all angles for the players. Everything has a counter more in the spirit of BF 1942. However what we did not want to do was mirror the sides, so while each side is balanced, each side is a little different.

(Jilted) Also we have several X-Military people on the team who help provide references, feedback, and other information on how things are done.

(TG) One aspect that many BF2 players lack is the value of life. Has any feature been added that would make a player value their life above a one-ticket loss?

(Mullet) In our new game mode Incursion, you only get one life.

(TG) What are some long-term goals (i.e. features) that the PoE team is hoping to add in future releases?

(Mullet) Shorter release cycles and more content in the form of equipment, maps, and especially urban maps.

(Jilted) to get releases out!!!!

(TG) How can people support the development of this mod?

(Daarken) Support. A lot of the bf2 regulars don't even know / realize what mods are. Tell everyone who plays bf2.

(Mullet) Play the mod, play any mod really. Get people involved in the mod community and support the hard work of all the teams out there. Go out and let people know about all the wonderful free mods! It is shocking about how many people do not know about mods at all.
