Re: TGU PR 0.5 Rotary wing (basic) module
Haha, those crazy PR dudes. Good flying today Rick, your dust offs were looking a lot better.
Affirmative. Goat did a tremendous job, good stuff. I think everyone from the beginner to advanced skill level got something from the session, and that's always cool.

Re: TGU PR 0.5 Rotary wing (basic) module
Thanks to all the instructors, had a great time tonight.

I recorded the whole thing from TeamSpeak, so I will try to put some sort of instructional video together or something. I got lots of Fraps footage of me standing around at the beginning before my hard drive filled up... Will just throw together some stuff in single player.|TG| Lorian

Re: TGU PR 0.5 Rotary wing (basic) module
Yeah good training. The beginners got to learn to fly and the more advanced pople got to get some valuable pratice in. Everyone came away with some new knowledge and better understanding of what the role of a pilot is.
Goat mad crazy good job.
The hungry, ignorant man immediately grasps that he is handed a fish, but is bewildered when handed a net. The man who shivers in the cold thinks happily of the man who invites him to sit by his fire, and somewhat poorly of the man who loans him an axe, flint and steel.

If you enjoyed the session, please show eGoatboy your love with +rep, I have to spread myself around before giving him any more.

Re: TGU PR 0.5 Rotary wing (basic) module
Hey guys,
It was a really good turn-out today! Probably just about the right number of people:
Attendees Included:- Pfc.Rapaki
- Ric_Recondo
- JBRanger
- Foxoq
- Lorian
- Cappy
- Acid
- Gabriel87
- Wimpinator
- Blonov
- Goat
- BigGaayAl
- Gahlas
- Troublesome4u
- Axis
I really appreciated how cooperative everyone was...it really made things much easier on me. I admit deviating from my course plan a couple times...but that always happens! We did get to most of what I wanted to cover, although the differing levels of piloting skill meant some crews got to the harder stuff sooner (we also started the more experienced pilots out in the HH-60 and AH-6J as well).
It was pretty cool seeing 5 helos flying landing patterns...all making that right turn coming in for a touch-and-go on the foredeck of the carrier! Blonov captured this shot of Cappy's approach. Admittedly, it took awhile before that drill looked less like the FAA's worst-nightmare-come-true, and more like a coordinated effort. Depsite the very high skill level of today's pilots, we did occaisonally break some of the toys
I had actually planned to conduct a drill whereby we rescue people from the water, but this became a neccessity early on
I was intending this to be a way to practice controlled hovering...turned out we got lot's of practice plucking downed crewman from the drink!
This is an excerpt from my notes on the drills I planned to run...much of which we got to. Of course, once helos started pancaking it seemed evident that we weren't going to get to all ot this
Drills
1] Rotate helo 360 cw & ccw while landed
2] Take off, hover in position about 10' above the deck, set it down
Keep control of cyclic while landed to avoid rolling the helo
3] Take off, fly to city and back focussing on maintaining straight/level flight
4] Hover while looking out right side window
5] Fly laps around the carrier, cw & ccw
6] Landing practice on carrier foredeck
200m out, 120m altitude, zero out collective, land on smoke
7] Landing at city CPs (which one?)
8] Drop troops off on hotel, and pick troops up from hotel
9] Touch and go insertions
10] Follow the leader
11] Water rescue
12] AA awareness
13] Route planning
For the touch-and-go insertions we had 2 aircrews fly a pair of MH-6s into Market under simulated fire (thanks to our volunteer MEC forces), drop off the troops, then cycle back out to the carrier and come in for an extraction.
This is certainly one element that I'd like to spend more time on as this is the most typical MH-6 scenario in-game. If we got an aircrew of 4 (2 pilots, 2 co-pilots) sorted out to do this well, and a couple squad leaders who could prepare the LZ and get their chalk organized we could see some very fast insertions of force on the field. I'm sure the 160th will master this!
Cheers,

Oh yeah!! Mucho thanks to Acid for getting the private server set for today's event. Without that...not much would have happened at all!!

Re: TGU PR 0.5 Rotary wing (basic) module
The trining session was awesome. I was easily the worst pilot, crashing randomly and generally having a hard time. eGoatboy took the time after the main session was over to help me out and give some very helpful pointers.
I am still pretty bad but at least I understand what I should be doing now. Thanks to Goat and all of the instructors for the help!Retired 6th DB

Re: TGU PR 0.5 Rotary wing (basic) module
Today was just plain awesome! Goat was incredible in his leadership. Seeing all of those helos in the landing pattern was nothing short of incredible. I could definitely see ATC coming in handy in times like this! HOLY COW! After seeing some close calls on the landings I started calling my turn to base and final. Others soon followed and we were rocking and rolling.
Rick - your landings got better with each one. Thanks for being a great student.
Goat - Not enought thanks can be given for your leadership. Truly remarkable.
Many thanks to everyone involved. For being just a training session it seriously was some of the most fun I've had in a long time.
Thanks again!

Re: TGU PR 0.5 Rotary wing (basic) module
Yeah, my plan to not be the first pilot to junk a lil bird and be responsible for anyone dieing went great.
The Plan was to stall using the aircraft as long as possible.
Here is the radio transcript of me in the hot seat and Ranger as the co pilot in the lil bird:
Ranger: O.k. looks like we are fully warmed up; now let’s try some 360s while landed shall we.
Ric: I do’t think it is warmed up, sir.
Ranger: No, we are good. Let’s go.
Ric: No, no, I don’t hear the swooping noise.
Ranger: At ease, it has been a minute easy, we’re good. Let’s go man.
Ric: No, no, I think I hear the engine knocking. It's knocking just a little bit, just a little bit. I think we are almost ready though.
KaaaBBOOOOM. The first chopper rolls over and blows everything all to hell.(PO3) Marcinko_R. (BF2 PR .509) Squad Member

Re: TGU PR 0.5 Rotary wing (basic) module
HEY!!!! Not true! You were well on your way to your fifth go around before it tipped over on deck as you tried to land ANYWAY....despite my intructions! LOL! I jumped onto the deck as I saw us tipping, but like a good captain you decided to go down with your ship. I saw you roll, accelerate off the side of the deck and was like, "Well, I guess he died." But no, I then see him still fully at left lock accelerate BACK across the deck, the tail rotor swings around and proceeds to slice and dice my body. Meanwhile you're still givin' her all she's got! LOL! Classic! You still went into the drink though. So, what is the lesson learned here? There is no place you can hide when Rick is flying. He will kill you, wherever you are, and I am just talking about friendlies here. LOL!
