Some Cinematic Moments on the Server

Given that we more often than not are dying in TF2, we often find ourselves faced with a picture of our killer that, on occasion, looks quite good. So here are a few of my personal favorites from my collection:

Our friend Magna doing his thing.

There is a heavy at B! A heavy at B!

Watching from afar, biding one's time for the strike.

    United Offense.

    Never Give Up.

I'm suprised anyone snaps my Looking Goods... all you need to do is wait about 20 seconds and you'll get another one. It'd be funny if everyone capped one when I do that thing I do where I rip through four guys and pistol a couple more, so a storyboard of pwnage could be made, each one a shot of me killing the next guy.

I'm a shutterbug, so I have tonnes of these. (320 files, 1.28GB in my screenshot folder)

    The little funnies:

After a lag glitch, all enemy soldiers became invisible. I know Valve keeps Spy as bugged and useless as possible, but giving Soldier infinity inviso-watch without flicker effect and being allowed to fire while invisible is just mean.

I believe that I have caught aflame:

Hey, Zeigiest, you're looking kinda cool.

I don't take many screenshots when I die. I'm usually to busy pounding my fist on the desk or cursing at soldiers for... well, being soldiers (I seriously hate them so much. Stupid freaking crit rockets!), but I did get a few good ones.

you can type bind f5 jpeg in the console will help make that folder stay a lot smaller. It will take the screenshots in .jpg format instead of the default .tga, which keeps the file sizes < 150 KB instead of 2.25 MB

I'd post some screens as well, but doing the clickable thumbs are eluding me atm, and I probably shouldn't inline...

Uh, lol? The compressed screenshots look like garbage. JPEG is horrible unless you use 1x1x1 subsampling, and next to nothing does. Especially on a game that uses so much red, you may as well take a photograph of your screen with a cell phone camera as take a screenshot to JPEG.

Really? All of the screenshots I posted were captured as jpeg and they look just fine to me. Did you actually try using jpeg before bashing it?

The Granary0001 shot especially, look at the little red health cross at the bottom right. Better, don't look at it. JPEG's turned it into a smear of fail.

In Source, your JPEGs will depend on your jpeg_quality parameter. Default is stab-eyes awful, but it's almost permissible if you turn it up.

Well, thanks for clearing that up for me. I knew you could adjust the quality of the jpg, but I didn't think it was a big issue. I really should have opened my jpg files up on something other than my cell phone screen to check the quality of them. I'll make sure to label any jpg screenshot links I post as such so you, and others who would rather not waste their time looking at such low quality snapshots of mine.

Whatever works. I have plenty of drive and nothing to lose but quality so I snap verbatim. JPEG done right is an excellent format. Unfortunately, the subsampling is a huge factor and yet nearly everything saves to 2:1 and makes a mess of the reds and thin lines.

Don't mind Magna, he's just got a Bond complex going on as he's logged more time as a spy than most people have logged in TF2 total.

I don't mind keeping the quality up for 5 mp pics from my dSLR camera, but from the game? meh.

Also, there was a guy using a spray with the Inigo Montoya saying on a "Hi, My name is ________" sticker. Was quite amusing.

Shots like that really make me amazed that this whole thing is just a video game engine. Valve really has pushed the limits. Watch out Pixar.
