TG vs Focused Gaming

We got destroyed handily... I can't help but think it might have been less of a massacre if the half of the folks who signed up didn't flake. Oh well.

We need a rematch.

Thanks to...Maja, Mosely, and Paster for coming on when we begged you to.

Red = Thanks for...Huh?
Orange = Well, you showed up for the first part. Thanks for that at least
Green = Winners!

Now on to the serious part...

There was a practice. While it was not mandatory it is extremely insulting to hear that you "didnt know about it" ahead of time. There were announcements via steam, events via steam, and PM's. About 8 of us on MONDAY NIGHT 8PM EST laid out the plans for class assignments. Even those of you who did not show up, I had you marked down as something, asking those present at the practice what we needed/what you probably would like to be.

If you signed up for this, and did not show (unless it was an extreme circumstance[Computer problems magna...); Don't expect any pity when you're not invited to the next event B and I spend time organizing. This may be out of spite, and it may be bitter, but think of it this way: The other team was also waiting on you.

Yes, it was a crappy day. I had a terrible one. Technical issues were rampant. When you ASSUME the match is canceled you do just that - You make an ass out of you and me. Not just me, but the guys who spent time organizing and plotting for this scrim. The other TG tag wearers that stuck it through despite the problems; Despite the beating.

When it gets right down to it; I'm offended that I was one of only (don't quote me on it) 2 people who volunteered to be captain. This is a completely different ball game from my usual leadership experience: Project Reality. I did my best (I even showed up!). I'm not saying you all should have jumped on the opportunity.

Re: TG vs Focused Gaming

I had this down as Friday night. Since... forever. If something changed, I didn't get the memo. Additionally, my desktop is currently enjoying a complete re-installation, as a number of annoyances (TF2 lagging like a nightmare, video problems, lockups, sound glitches, and much much more) took me beyond my patience's limit.

Anyway, you had Spade, so I had nothing more to contribute.

Good games TG, sorry about all the technical issues (what are the odds of an update right when we start the first round?). Hope to set this up again.

Re: TG vs Focused Gaming

Thanks to everyone for showing up and braving the massive logistical issues getting started. We had to work through many no shows, server settings issues, SourceTV, and the brilliant timing of a game patch released right when we were starting. But we somehow managed to keep 23-24 people online for the full 4 points we'd planned on, and that's no small feat.

Great games guys, and thanks to everyone that ended up participating in the actual scrim. It was my first Source-engine scrim and I've got a lot to learn, but luckily BHack and Bommando were able to get the server in playable condition, even if we had to literally re-start the server and change the 'first map' each time to be able to play both maps.

As for the games we played, I'll let the scores speak for themselves.

Needless to say, we're up for a rematch whenever. Most of our guys obviously met here at TG and it was a fun time playing with new and old faces, and learning that Strag brews his own beer. Good games, everyone.

EDIT: We ended up having to disable SourceTV for the match. Hopefully for the next scrim we'll be able to record it. My apologies.

I'm so, so sorry that me and Johnnyboy didn't show up. It was completely our fault, and we don't expect to get invited to the next scrim. We should have been responsible, but it completely slipped our mind. We will do everything that we can to make sure that it won't happen again. We hope that we will be invited to other scrims in the future.

Yea, I thought it got delayed to another day after we hit the steam update, and people had started to play on 2fort, and I was told it was delayed. At this point, I really needed to get some work done for class. When I signed up I expected to start at 8, and be done around 10ish. Not start at almost 9, crash, then have a game of 2fort going in the middle.

I was slightly late because no one sent me the password, and after it looked liked it died...

Well, I did abandon you midway, so I fell kinda bad, but next time I will make sure that that I have a lot more then just 2 hours free to play with. ( I was joining to make up the 12th person in this game, so I was kinda expecting that I might have to leave near the end if it was drawn on a lot . )

I feel so bad that you couldn't record that debacle.

Re: TG vs Focused Gaming

Hey, at least the match happened.... right? RIGHT?

Anyways, I think I've ironed out all the issues with the TG match server, so it's always open for a scrim if needed. This way we don't interfere with TG:TF2's main server or the main server for the community we're scrimming against. We can also guarantee SourceTV is online as I've beat it with a hammer enough times to be sure it's working.

It won't be online all the time (I'm leaving it running for stress testing and because there's no performance hits to TG:TF2 and TG:CoD4), but I'll get Bc the information on how to start the server up and bring it down the next time I'm on Steam.

The main thing is that people have fun with these scrims. We're not always going to win and that's no big deal. But it is important in the future that if you decide to be a part of the scrim, you make every effort to compete.

We learned something from this scrim: we need to revamp how we setup the matches and how we communicate with each other. Every person interested in practice and scrims needs to think of the best way to be contacted and needs to get that information to Bc.

If we need a "Tuesday night 9pm CST Teamspeak meeting" in order to make sure there are no questions about match/practice times, then so be it. Bc has full control over the scrim front, so feel free to bounce any ideas (and grenades) off him.

Re: TG vs Focused Gaming

I'd also recommend leaving the scrim announcement thread open for comments. Having only one point of contact with either community can bottleneck communications, and in the future we can at least communicate with more than one person in the open announcement thread, if necessary.
