Just play, Baby!
Ok, I need everyone to do me a favor....close your eyes and think for a moment on what you really love about TF2.
Go ahead, I'll wait...........
Done?
Good.
Now what is it? For me it's just the fact that the game is hella fun. It is probably the most well balanced "Beta" I've ever played or heard of. Each class has a specific role, however you are never locked onto anything for very long if you don't want to be. Unless you're like most of us and will play a class that the team needs even if it's not your favorite. (part of what makes us special. Not Ultrablue special because he's not allowed out unsurpervised after 5 pm...the cool kind of special.)
Any so called "exploits" have a counter or were actually part of the design process. The pace is perfect and the character personalities just add that extra "umph!" that puts the game a notch or two above anything else out there.
I can see how the game can come across as the Anti-TG. But it's anything but. Yes it's goofy and has a sense of humor about itself, but the game is as deep as most any other title out there. It just comes at you from a direction that most of us aren't used to.
I'm sure there's plenty more and I'd like you all to use this post and share exactly what it is you love about this game.
See, in my opinion, we've had WAY to much talk about what the game is lacking, bitching about server rules or the lack thereof. Team play and team stacking, server size and Friendly Fire....oh my. Remember, it's a BETA and anyone that remember the BF2 launch know's what goes into that. The Admins are playing with ZERO tools at their disposal, so please, cut them some slack when the server goes screwy or something FUBAR happens during a game.
Seriously, just play. Get on the server, join a side and help your team frag the hell out of the bad guys. Take CP's, use coordinated medic/heavy/pyro/anyone that will take my UBERNESS OF GLOWING DEATH!!!! to blow parts of your buddies all over the room. Take a screen shot of your most crazy frag and post it on the SS thread.
But for God's sake, get a sense of humor and HAVE SOME FREAKING FUN! Stop taking everything that happens as game and TG breaking nonsense.
There's a time and place for Tactics discussions and Map strats and what have you. It's encouraged and more than welcome on this forum. But seriously, for this thread, can we all just get over ourselves and realize that we're just here to have fun.
Together. TG style.
This isn't a religion, it's not supposed to be a job and it sure as hell isn't supposed to get us all angry and pointing fingers over who said what and who did what and who said that they said that I said that YOU said that they HATE fuzzy bunnies and you suck if you don't. (Personally, I'd frag someone repeatedly for that kind of nonsense, but hey, that's just me. Fuzzy bunnies > You.)
It. Is. A. Game.
Fun. TG. Us.
A lot of us seem to have forgotten that little, simple, fact.
I say to hell and gone with any more drama. IHS? Big whoop. I can frag all of you by myself.....really. See one team with all those tag wearing bad asses and none on yours? Pray.
Seriously, just play it out. You have an 8 in 10 chance of beating the pants off of them anyways. If not, I swear, the teams will even or the tide will soon turn. I have enough faith in everyone here that that would be the case. We aren't here to WTFPWN you and we sure as hell don't have more fun than you when we get rolled or do a lot of rolling. If the games aren't competitive and team oriented, then they aren't fun and don't belong at TG.
We all know this and given the chance, we all support and agree with it. We want you to play on our servers...TG members and Pubbies alike. We want to show you OUR way of playing, but realize that we're human and dumb crap happens from time to time. We promise we'll make it up to you if things go to hell on a map or two. Just have some patience with us while we get our feet wet and figure ourselves and TF2 out.
Points have been made, scored, proven and beaten into submission. Seriously, there's nothing left to prove except our own willingness to be smacktards. And I know that no one wants to be a smacktard. Well, maybe some of us, but we won't go there....
So please, just play.
That's my suggestion and I'm sticking to it. If you don't like it, then cool. Do what you feel is right. Just take my post in the tone it's meant and not pick one line to make an arguement that is so far removed from what I'm trying to say. That's the easy, lazy way to start a flame war. If you're looking for that, I can point you to MANY other communities that would love to have you.
What's it going to be? Can we bring the fun back? If not, then I'm taking my ghost buster heal gun and going home. And where will all you "MEDIC" crying pansies be then?

Who's first? It's all in the Reflexes.

Re: Just play, Baby!
I like this game because it was not supposed to be tactical, and we make it tactical. The most fun I had was yesterday morning when Bom and I raided a pub server. Our team was in total disarray when Bom started barking orders...and just like little soldiers they all started following the Aussie's voice.
Sure we all could run around and just blow stuff up..and that would be fun. However, the game and its goodness is magnified when we all work together. Often times it is simply sacrificing your favorite kit for one the team needs. I can honestly say I have never been displeased at this game, sure we have all had very poor rounds (except pablo and his backstab) but it has always been a good time.
Our server is sooo challenging, which is why we can fill it up quickly. The dynamics of every round is altered and usually the same attack/defense plan will not work twice in a row.
I think we take our community for granted sometimes!

Re: Just play, Baby!
Oh man, I couldn't agree more. I have as much fun being on the losing team for those moments as I do the winning side.
Just watching everyones survival instinct kick in and try to hide or run away.
I'd say that goes triple time for an unexpected Heavy/Medic UBER run. Doesn't matter if the guys are pushing offense or defense, pop that Uber and watch everyone just SCATTER! Pyros can have that same effect on people as well.
Team Blu Leader Type: Ok guys push up....come ON we need guys on the CP.
Blu Spy: Sentry's are down....it's clear!
Blu Soldier: Go Go Go Go!
Red Medic: I've got Uber...let's hit it.
Red Heavy: NOW!
Blu Leader type: Kill that Medic!!!
Blu Heavy: I am BULLETPROOF!!!! RUN COWAR......ACK! UBER HEAVY!!! RUNNNNNN!!!!!
Blu Team: Head for the Hills!!!!!! Gang way!!!!!
Whole advancing team scatters in a mass panic and chaos ensues.
Red team advances behind Uber Heavy/Med
Random Red Team Member: Yeah!!! Who's your daddy now?!!!!
Red Medic: Uber's done in 2 seconds!
Red Heavy: HAHAHAHAH......oh crap, they just Ubered! RUNNNNN!
Red team scatters in a mass panic and chaos ensues.
It's all in the Reflexes.

Re: Just play, Baby!
Oh, have to add one more.
I think the only thing I fear more than an Uber Heavy/Medic is that freaking Enemy Train.
I've seen that thing take out more people than a serial killer. And I have to admit, that each time it happens, I giggle like a little kid. Even when I'm the jackass that just got run over. Best/Worst moment I ever saw was a sudden death and half our team got taken out in the first 10 seconds by that damn killer train. I was crying from laughing so hard.
But NOTHING can compare to running from an Uber push only to watch the Uber get creamed by that train. Just. Priceless. It's all in the Reflexes.

Re: Just play, Baby!
The most fun after 3-4 days in?
For me, it's the feeling of achivement when you learn something new in a game and make good use of it.
Example.
Yesterday, i learned that healing a teammate (say Zoopy) who does not fire a single shot is bad because he is an enemy spy (thanks 7th!).
As a result I've learned to check if my teammates fire their weapon, if not i hit them in the head or fire at them. I got some nice kills doing this yesterday too.
And offcourse the feeling of wanting to play more when you're somewhere else, even in bed. It all makes me feel like i little kid again. Can't wait to get home from work now!
Fire fire fire!!!

Re: Just play, Baby!
Heh... I hear people ragging on new players on a daily basis, and sometimes I fall into it myself. Some of us forgot so long ago what it is like to know nothing about the game. I can't count the number of times I've had a medic on me with 100% charge and I've said "hit it as we run in", only to have both of us explode into bits as we move in without uber... "Hit it! Hit it! Now! ARRRRGGGG!"
... followed by me saying, after respawn, "when you have 100% charge, right click will give you invulnerability"...
Great fun, this game. Every day, we see more and more people making moves like:
- double and triple uber rushes
- flanking in teams to break up uber opportunities
- defending flanks so the ubers have a chance to build
- grouping up into an offensive team instead of attacking as individualsPeace through fear... since 1947!

Re: Just play, Baby!
Yep. It's becoming clearer and clearer that coordination is going to be required to break those big defenses or pre-empt those inevitable ubers. I saw some great uber pre-emption last night on Dustbowl, where a couple heavy/medics were waiting behind the gate to assault the 2nd point when they got lit up by an ubered pyro.
It was beautiful.Beatnik

Re: Just play, Baby!
While I enjoy teamwork, I hate it when others bark orders at me. This is true in almost every game (some you are meant to be barked at), and is mainly due to my personality.
I especially hate people who feel their voice needs to be heard every second of their existence, even if what they are saying has little to no significance. My favorite is when I'm told to go take out sentry so and so, which I have been attempting to do for 10 minutes, then being told I am not doing my job, that just drives me up the wall.
I think just about anything anyone tells me to do bugs me, but that's my issue
. I guess what I'm trying to say is some people need to assume their teammates know what they are doing (it is obvious when noob x is going around doing pointless things), and ask for help rather then order them to do so.
I acknowledge the existence of my teammates, and am always aware of what's going on around me even though I don't often use voicecomm. That is my playstyle and has been for many years.

I love gaming, mmmmmmmm
