Thankyou Fenix, that is the best post I've seen on the TF2 forums

Just shows, you can make friends with teamwork !

Re: Maybe we are a little mean...

    Thanks Silver.

Here's something I left out, I've seen a trend at TG over the years, roaming around different games ranging from NS, PCS, BF2, Insurgency, and Dystopia: whereas TG players rarely see eye to eye, there's always a stigma against public players. "We're better than them." "They don't understand what TG is about."

This stigma can do a lot of damage really fast.

Just because a player is cussing and kicking up a fuss doesn't immediately make me assume he's an immature brat. I pubbed a lot in my day. Since Dystopia went down, I pubbed a lot more lately.

Sometimes even mature public players can literally get lost in the public player mentality:

Clanners and admins don't care about pubs.
    Teamwork isn't there.
    Every man for himself.
I have to cuss and throw a fit to get noticed.

You have to look at why they act the way they do and you can begin to understand how they got this way. I'm not saying TG is like AA is to alcoholics, but when you start to treat the root of the problem (rather than just cutting out abusive players), they begin to change their tune.

Once they start getting a taste of what real teamwork and communication is (on a public server no less), they generally drop the attitude because it becomes a fun experience for them. The maturity comes back.

This goes back to the crux of my post: we have to show them that TG is better. You do that by setting examples and letting people follow them. Those players that choose to ignore those examples are the ones we are forced to remove.

Wow... that's an awesome story, fenix. You showed patience and look how much it paid off... you helped someone to find a better way to resolve the situation, a way he was struggling to find. He had the intent, just not the best delivery.

We can definitely all learn from this example!

I remember you telling me about this at the time Fenix. I now get what you're saying and as usual you're absolutely right.

In BF2142 I had 2.8 something K/D total because it somehow did matter. In TF2 I often go like 4-18 or something because there are no "tickets" at all just your mission object.

So dont feel bad at all about K/D - everyone can get a nice K/D by turtling it out somewhere but beeing no big use for your team.

That is precisely the excuse I use for explaining TG to someone. I don't think it's grounds for any *other* action, unless the statement is true of someone who wears the tag or has already received the relevant information.

Re: Maybe we are a little mean...

Well I hopped on the TG server Wednesday to play with my buddy who just got the game. Now this is the first time I've played on TG's server and during the very first round my team is subjected to a harangue from an admin who evidently isn't happy with his teammates. Now I've never played with this person before so I have no idea whether this is a common occurrence or not. However, it wasn't a good first impression, especially when you can't expect everyone to have the same level of experience on a just released game. After that round, we promptly left for another server. Really folks, if you aren't in a good mood, then leave the game. If you can drive away a veteran, you can drive away newcomers.

    P.S. I've already PM'd the aforementioned individual.

I've played TF2 for a grand total of about an hour now (no prior experience with Team Fortress at all) and I too received a brief scolding about not being in the "right place" for something someone was trying do. It wasn't enough to drive me away, but it did irk me a bit. Being so new to the game, I had no idea were to look to see who was speaking, but I did not recognize the voice nor have I heard it since.

I have to agree with Bane, if you're having a bad day either leave the game or keep your finger away from the VoIP button.

Lorax and Bane that is really depressing to hear. Hopefully this was just an abnormality and not an everyday occurence. I know I'd be happy to show you guys the ropes, however you will probably end up being killed more often than not . Maybe we can hold a "hi I just bought the game" night.......

Well, I'm a complete n00b to the game, and I've only seen support on the server, even from pubbies on the server.

I did not mean to imply my experience was negative and that there was no support, there was and I enjoyed the overall experience.

I try and monitor the server as much as possible, even if I'm not playing. If I catch players berating other players, I inform them that we don't allow that. I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but this is by no means going to be SOP on the TF2 server.

My team and I are looking at possible admins all the time and as the admin team gets rounded out, coverage will improve.

    Slight update...

My mic went out, and lately I've been playing without the use of VOIP. While it's still fun, it's increasingly irritating whenever I ask for a medic to activate their Uber. I'll spam "Activate Charge", and no one fires it off. Someone from the team will get tired of the spamming and tell them to activate for me. Please pay attention to the chat. While voice is the preferred method of communication, alot is parlayed through the text.
