Now that it's out, how is it?

    Hi Everyone,

I see that TF2 has been released and I was just curious as to how good is it?

    Thanks.

The beta has been running around for a bit. I don't think anything has really changed since it went retail. Other than that, this game is pretty damn good. I think it has enough hommeges to TFC to make it a good sequel while having MORE than enough changes and new material to make it an actual sequel, rather than just an expansion pack.

Really clean game...and a ton of fun.

Well, if you get it standalone it's cheaper than Quake Wars, and if you get it in the Orange Box it's the same price for many more games...temptation rising...

I enjoy it as a casual diversion. But it is not something I have spent all that much time playing. It seemed to lack a certain level of complexity to keep me interested. The cartoonish style of the game wore thin with me within the first hour of playing. However, I am in the minority with this opinoin, I think it is exactly these properties that will make it so successful for many others.

I certainly don't regret buying the orange box. Having never played HL2 before, I am enjoying the SP game a bit, and portal is fun. peggle is a good time.

Go back to your crappy jetpacks.

Not to curtail your opinion, but I feel the exact opposite. With 9 classes to be used across numerous map gametypes (CTF, CP, cp/attackers/defenders), I find the strats are even now growing in complexity. Players are starting to work out counters to certain team class setups and they're getting better by the day. And it's not just "Spy beats engy, engy beats scout, scout beats demo, etc). It's based upon the aspects of the entire team.

Take for instance a 2 engineer setup with a pyro backing them up for spy removal. It's not cut and dry. The attacking team has to find a way to divert that pyro away from his engineers so they can do their job. Numerous tactics have arose to combat this, but it's not just A + B = C. I've found valve has done an excellent job holding this over from TFC: there isn't just 1 or 2 counters to a given solution.

The cartoonish style of the game wore thin with me within the first hour of playing.
After a while, I forget I'm even in "Toon Town" with the (very well done) cel shading.

TF2 is anything but shallow when it comes to gameplay, especially when you take into account the TG aspect. The tactics forum has been light on team oriented strategies, but like in PCS: I have plans to do a few write-ups once I've put in some more gametime.

Quake Wars would make my computer explode. From what I understand TF2 is somewhat less system-intensive, which would also sway my decision. I'm just a little reluctant to leave BF 2142 behind, since I honestly don't have the time to focus on more than one game at a time.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm swamped.

I'm in the middle of bioshock. Have never played HL2 at all, and I still have to finish portal

All while keeping up on PR and TF2 from time to time.

If you don't have Orange Box, you aren't cool.

This game is hilarious but addictive.
