Well. Great.
The map goes to switch, my screen goes completely black and hangs. I bring up the Task Manager and everything goes berserk with the screen and icons flickering wildly. My mouse doesn't respond, everything's going haywire.
So I do a soft reset and now my wireless mouse's wheel doesn't work (which drives me absolutely INSANE). This is after a particularly-frustrating match in which 70% of the team decides to be asshats and play classes that cannot capture a point in a map which is completely central to that concept. We got steamrolled repeatedly, and still the same morons persisted in building turrets and sneaking around trying to backstab people and yadda yadda yadda. Yay TF2. Don't mind me. Just frustrated and had to vent somewhere. ![]() Last edited by Gillespie; 10-12-2007 at 04:52 AM. |

Re: Well. Great.
I've had this happen playing Episode 1. I've got to presume an issue on Valve's end with video drivers.

Re: Well. Great.
This happened to me, the fix I found was to go to your steam games list, select TF2 (or Ep1 or anything released since Ep1) and right-click. Select Properties, go to Set Launch Options and add this line:
-dxlevel 81 If this works for you, you will want to also add -height [pixels] -width [pixels] Sometimes when you set your games at -dxlevel 81 it won't remember your resolution settings, adding the above tags as well will solve that. Hope that helps!

Re: Well. Great.
Actually, if the mouse is still visible, the machine hasn't crashed its actually that the image/loading box are completely off center and you think you have a black screen. It has happened to me a few times and I just patiently wait and the next map loads and I'm back in.

Re: Well. Great.
Actually I noticed for TF2 that the server's maplist goes haywire when it starts over. You'll have a black screen for a while instead of the normal loading screen. Rest assured though it's loading the next map. Eventually the server info page will pop up.
Patience, is the key. Go refill that glass of orange juice, or go to the bathroom. ![]()
