Alt-tabbing in and out of Source games?
Every time I try to alt tab in and out of TF2 and other source games it slows my computer down to a crawl, and usually takes at least five minutes to get back into TF2. Is there any way to fix this, or is this just part of the software?

Works fine for me now (C2D 6600 2GB) but on my old system (P4 ~3GHz 2GB) it took about 5 seconds to get out and 15 to get back in.

It definitely depends on the hardware, and how many other things you have running. Prior to my latest reformat, it took a good 5 minutes. Now, it takes 40 sec. or so.

Re: Alt-tabbing in and out of Source games?
I only have a p4 2.8, 2gb ram, it only takes my system just a few seconds to alt-tab out and in. If I wait more than 10 or 15 minutes to alt-tab back in, it will take about a minute or so for the game to pop back up.

You may have issues with that sort of thing regardless of your system. The game is still new and the game/drivers may not get along. I have an e6850 and a 640mb 8800 gts both overclocked and it still takes me 15-20 seconds to get back into tf2 if I alt tab out (which is instant) by mistake. Now that I think of it this is probably the only game I currently play that I have issues alt tabbing with.
It has gotten better with tf2 patches throughout the beta (first game would crash alt tabbing, then it would open and close the game over and over, and now it takes maybe 15 seconds to get back in). So although it may be hardware related, sometimes you are at the mercy of the developer or drivers.

I love gaming, mmmmmmmm

So, basically your system was like my old one. I never had a minute or so, but if I left it for a prolonged period -- read, hours -- it would take a while, and crash when it finally tried to go again.
If it's an issue, consider playing windowed. I did one night when I needed to watch some WinGUI stuff, and it ran with plenty of FPS.

Always had a problem alt-tabbing in Valve Games, and I've had a pretty good spread of Hardware over the years, but the one constant thing is I run ATI Graphics with AMD board/processors.
Most other games I don't have an issue with, but any Steam game tends to lock up/take a really long time if I alt-tab.I am the one, I am the zero, I am your low resolution hero.
