TF2 Squads
From what little I've played so far, TF2 seems to be a bit of a rock-paper-scissors game- ranged beats melee, far ranged with medic beats ranged and melee beats medic.
I would think a small coordinated squad of at least three people could do very well. Do any TG folk meet up on teamspeak and launch such teams on unsuspecting servers? bkelly |

Re: TF2 Squads
The guys over on TFR talked a bit about this. It's a familiar term called fire teams. Basically you get 2-3 guys who focus primarily on working with each other. You pick a call sign that represents your fire team and listen to orders from others to work within that mini-squad.
For most groups, it works fine, although players like me who tend to have a heavy focus on recon and saboteur tactics will be sticking to a 1 man fire team just awaiting orders from the top.

Re: TF2 Squads
You can actually get quite a bit out of both smaller and larger groups.
Start with your basic Heavy Medic. Two man, quite effective. Three people? Add a soldier. Good medic stays on the HWG switching over to heal the soldier from time to time. Now you've got the H/M punch with range. Four people? Second medic. Put him on the soldier full time. Now you're in for some serious hurt. Lose the heavy or the soldier? Chain the medics. Lose a medic? Then you're just back up the tree. Five people? Add a pyro or a second soldier. Rearguard, spy defense, so on. CTF maps make the pyro more useful, CP maps the soldier. Wouldn't go for a group larger than 5 people, because you're probably tying up too many people into one effort and don't have enough flexible response. With a group of friends, any/all of the above are a blast to play, even on pubs.

Re: TF2 Squads
Any time you get a combination of guys to play as a tight group you get to add the strengths of the kits and minimize the weakness of the kits. For example, the Pyro is great up close, but likely to get picked off at medium to long range. The Soldier is good all around but is quickly exposed to everything in the open. The Heavy is slow and easy to be picked off by snipers, spies, demomen and roaming mobs. Medics are only successful when paired with other players.
But when you take all 4 of them into one tight knit group, then the pyro can cover against spies against the medic and the heavy. The Soldier can suppress snipers as well as medium to long range threats to the Heavy and Pyro. The Heavy will absorb a ton of damage to allow the Pyro, Soldier and Medic to exist for a long period of time and the Medic will ensure that none of the guys die if they play smartly. Put together 2 of these groups plus one small defense group and you have an easy win round after round. Lucky Shot |

Re: TF2 Squads
The one thing that I have noticed is that teamwork is contagious. Once a few of us start to group and work together the whole teams starts to do this. This happened a few nights ago with Al, Ghost, 50, and myself...there were others but I was the medic trying to keep them all alive
The game really is at its best when you have a cohesive unit trying to work for the same goal.

Re: TF2 Squads
There were actually games going on in the TF2 custom maps server at the time you posted that. I would've been the playing.
