Re: Scrim: TG vs TFR
Ok...change of plans. I just spoke with root and we banged out a more holliday friendly date and time.
The match will be Saturday, December 29th at 4pm Eastern. We will be playing 8v8. Maps will be 2Fort and Mach2, with Hydro to be used in event of a tie. CTF maps will be played to 5 captures FTW.
I need to talk to Fenix about any config changes we may or may not want. I'm not the most savvy when it comes to this side of scrims.
I won't be needed on the reserves list after all.

Great, thanks for the leg work Dog. The maps and times sound good.

Re: Scrim: TG vs TFR
Just so we're clear, it would be very unsportting of us to camp intel room, while intel isn't present, for any reason. TFR takes a hard stance on this and has rules in place on their own servers to prevent it. Knowing this, we should respect their playstyle as much as we enjoy our own and do what we can to keep the match fair and sportting.

To be clear, if you plan on camping our intel room expect to feel the love of my flamethrower and Ouijas turret.

Re: Scrim: TG vs TFR
I'm not arguing your server rules (given that it's YOUR server), but philosophically, I really don't see how either one of those are bad sportsmanship, given the reasons that I stated above for both of my points. I would consider "bad sportsmanship" to be cheating/exploits/etc., such as building sentries underneath the map, or finding a spot where you were invulnerable (such as on a few old HLDM maps). However, I qualified both of my points by stating how unlike exploits, etc., both of the "issues" are no more difficult to overcome than a few sentry guns. It's a matter of teamwork. As such, implying that somebody is a bad sportsman for finding those rules unnecessary (at least on the server that I admin, which is irrelevant to this scrim, but we're speaking philosophically) is really quite unnecessary.
When I used to be very active in Airsoft, a teammate of mine frequently accused another buddy of "cheating", when the latter would merely hide and shoot, rather than run out into the open, Rambo-style.
On topic, the scrim sounds good, but I'm not 100% sure I could do it this weekend- there's going to be a lot of traveling.
Edit: Oooh, that time is much better. There's a much stronger chance that I could play now :PLast edited by Doktor Goku; 12-19-2007 at 01:15 PM. Reason: Revised Date

Re: Scrim: TG vs TFR
Goku, while I do understand your reservation about rules you don't agree with, TFR has decided to host this match so I'm deferring to them on the rule set. As it stands, I agree with you: I don't really consider to rules to be very necessary, but that's beside the point.
Neither are tactics I've seen relied upon on the TG:TF2 server and this is a friendly match between communities, so there's really no problem if the two teams can agree with the listed rules.
Also, I'll update the time.Last edited by TheFeniX; 12-19-2007 at 02:31 PM.

Re: Scrim: TG vs TFR
So it seems I'm on the TG rooster. Good good. This means I get to go head to head against my rival demonman (not a typo) Hogan.
This will be a fun way to end the year with a bang.

You're on their rooster, huh? It's a good thing FF is off or you'd probably blow you're own team up.

Hey just because I let the names of our tactical plans slip doesn't mean you've beaten us just yet.

Re: Scrim: TG vs TFR
Yah but it is kind of a cheap kill when you kill someone right out of spawn. They don't have time to get acclimated to the battlefield, they go in with no knowledge of the battlefield. Same could be said going into your own spawn room when it's being camped. It's a place you don't expect to be occupied unless the intel is there, noted by the indicator on your UI.
Intel rooms and spawn rooms are not expected to be occupied by players just waiting to kill you. They're not technically the battlefield. There are rules of war and we're playing simulations and games, often times whose architecture depends on the integrity of the player (ie spawn rooms).
We here at TG and presumably at TFR want to provide the best playable experience for everyone. How does a player taking two feet out of the spawn room after respawning have a great time? I don't know about you but that makes me frustrated.

Re: Scrim: TG vs TFR
We'll need a replacement for me. I can't make the Scrim. The wife has overruled my plans by having people come over at, of all times, 4 on the dot.
Good luck gang!
