New TF2 Content in the coming months!

    http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/50709

Update: Valve's Robin Walker has clarified that the new maps will definitely hit the PC, but are undecided for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Team Fortress 2, which are only available in The Orange Box.

Original Story: Two new maps for Valve's Team Fortress 2 will hopefully arrive within the next two months, the studio has informed Shacknews.

One of the new arenas is a remake of Team Fortress Classic's Badlands map, with an emphasis on more vertically-oriented gameplay due to the presence of control points on towering spires.

"Our estimate is that both these maps should be out within the next 2 months," Valve employee Robin Walker told Shacknews. "We expect to ship other new content before that."

That other content includes the forthcoming Medic achievement pack, which will add several new achievements for the Medic as well as a significant gameplay tweak for the class.

"It's a large scale modification to the core of the game," Walker hinted. "It'll debut in a limited fashion through the Medic first, but it'll be affecting all classes eventually."

"We're really looking forward to the community reaction," he continued. "We're really excited about where TF2 will be going over the next year."

I hope this "significant tweak" making its way through the classes isn't grenades. Every time I play, I'm glad they're gone :P

Eh, I would definitely be leery of too much "tweaking" especially if it involved grenades...

Grenades are dead. They've told us that in no uncertain terms.

I'm betting the "large scale modification" will involve how crits work.

I don't know, crits don't even happen but about 5~10% of the time. Not very large-scale to me.

Even so, at one point of the development they were in. Modeled and eveything, in fact you can still see them. I wouldn't be supprised if the demoman eventually got his TNT back. Still I hope you're right.

Demo doesn't have any use for them, though. Stick mines and pipe bombs do everything a grenade can do. Any service a hand grenade could perform the pipe bombs could perform if they weren't nerfed six ways from Sunday.

I don't know about that. I do exceedingly well as demo and even without relying on stickies. First off, it's all about arching your nades against strafing opponents. It's a learned response that ViolentSquirrel and I picked up back in Dystopia when we used to take turns on our own little fireteam. One would get an Assault Rifle, the other a GL. The GL would take out encampments while the AR covered him.

Anyways, the nice thing about HE nades from TFC was the fire-and-forget nature of them. With a good toss, I could just hang out around the corner and wait for it to destroy the SG and the engy with little danger to myself. Now it takes more skill and determination: which is a good thing.

I don't know, I like the idea of clearing a room with a single hand thrown TNT bundle like they showed in the first trailer. Remember the demo throwing that bundle of TNT?

One small explosion then 5 or 6 subsequent explosions all around. Now granted if you only had say 2 or 3, you wouldn't be using them as often as you would in TFC

Re: New TF2 Content in the coming months!

the mirv's that the demo had (2) and the heavy (1) were ridiculous. you could spam 2 mirv's (which was one big explosion followed by 4 smaller ones) and all of your regualar nades in about a second (quicker with macros) and completely take out anything and everything in a fairly big area. And thats not including his regular nade launcher or pipe bombs. Plus he had det packs which could blow up pieces of the geometry (which were intended but some used them quite effeciently to kill) He was an absolute BEAST in TFC if played well.

And the engy emp nade were overpowered as well detonating all dropped ammo and any explosives the person caught in the radius had on them.

Even though some might think the demo is a tad over powered in tf2, remembered he was nerfed quite a bit since beta and hes nowhere near how powerful he was in tfc (although stickies were a big improvement from the regular pipe bombs)

I really hope they dont bring back the nades but i seriously doubt they will. Valve is pretty good at getting things "right" with their games and its prolly a safe bet they went without nades for a good reason...seems they were right. Whatever their changes are, im assuming itll be for the better, but ill guess well find out.

Great to here badlands coming back....hopefully rock2 is the other map...or crossover...

I want my Heavy jump while spinning back, Team Fortress Arena style! It gave me so much more defensive maneuvers vs rockets and demos and pesky snipers. Also, fix the back stab registers. Im tired of getting backstabed with my back firmly against the wall!

Fix the back stab registers. I'm tired of backstabbing a heavy only for him to not die, wake up, turn around, not die to the second stab, and instafrag me.
