SourceTV enabled for testing.

Apophis has approved the use of sourceTV for our scrim matches. SourceTV will auto record these matches and we'll have the demos available for you guys. We may even throw them into a video. WeGame would make it easy.

Anyways, as part of this, I've been given permission to test the performance hit (if any) that running a 16 player STV server (passworded) will cause. So, I plan to keep it running till Sunday, unless there's any problems.

For stress testing, I want to get the server full, then have a few people connect. We've got plenty of time for testing, so I can work out details tonight.

I insist on being filmed from only one side.

Cool, I was wondering about this the other day.

Re: SourceTV enabled for testing.

Stress testing went well tonight. With a full server and kormendi and I connected to SourceTV, we noticed no hit on server performance. I suppose the real test will be when we get it loaded with 16 players, but I don't see that being a factor with how little CPU and bandwidth usage we're getting now.

Anyways, it's set to auto-record each match and I'm looking into allowing access to the demos. We haven't yet decided how we're going to set that up, but I'll post as soon as it's worked out.

I will say that if you remember a map with a date/time that you experienced a great game or just something you'd like for personal or promotional use: let me know either via PM or the AAR report forum and I'll look into getting you that demo.

I'm off to bed right now, but I do have a request: playing demos is kind of a pain when they are considerably long. Does anyone know of a way to play a demo with some kind of "media player" type setup where I can pause and skip around? That would be very helpful.

Not possible. A demo is a log of activities. To jump anywhere requires starting the initial state and playing to the desired point, simply skipping the rendering step. That's why anything but pausing takes an eternity when playing a demo.

Waitwut, you don't even know how to pause? I read that "skip around" as in "skip around without getting bored and watching TV or falling asleep while it grinds away." To display the transport, which is the big boy word for "media player type thingie," if I understand what you mean by the obtuse phrase "media player type thingie," console demoui

In Source? No. Never messed around with demos too much. On the off chance I recorded something, it was done using fraps.

Thanks for the demoui command.

Or you could record the section you want and then edit it afterwards. This would allow you to jump around using RP or WMP.

Re: SourceTV enabled for testing.

Ok, as part of Apophis approving a server dedicated to TG:TF2 scrims, I'm pulling SourceTV off our main server. It will be saved for when we host matches.

Depending on how things go, it may or may not come back on during normal server operation. But I've got about 3 GBs of demos over the past few weeks.
