Re: Call to Arms and Legs....

really, I don't mind who the leader is, as long as everyone listens to him, and no one tries to come up with a better plan mid game. It's my stance that a bad plan that everyone is doing together, is better than a good plan for each player on the team.

I can't imagine anyone of the TG members not listening to our appointed captain. This is a place for mature gamers, and from my time here, I can say that we are mature gamers. And I personally believe under the right leadership that we have the capacity to be the victors in any situation we're placed in.

I do however disagree with Neoviper. I would take a good plan for each player over a bad plan for everyone. Everyone has their strong suits, and if they utilize those towards a common goal, I think that's they key to victory.

Just an example here:
If I was placing a bet on match between Magna, Strag, Maja vs Magna, Strag and Maja.
Team One had Magna playing spy, Strag the demo, and Maja the Medic and the other team had all three doing a Pyro Rush. I'd place my money on Team One doing what they do best against a poorly thought out Pyro Rush(no matter how much fun it may be).

Re: Call to Arms and Legs....

The problem is that anyone can think he has the good plan for himself, even if it's really stupid.

Like me going in to stab a heavy. It's clearly a good plan until I see it is Cpt Dude, who is, quite literally, impossible to backstab. At that point, the plan is officially reclassified as pretty-boneheaded.

That's where communication comes in. When Player X has an idea, the Cap'n can support it, reject it, or assign someone else to it.

In that hypothetical, in the case of SUPRISE PYROLOL, I would put Strag down for 1¾ frags. If I get caught by the thousand-mile flare I can unload a half-frag into a pyro, and medic can easily needle another half before burning down.

If we saw them coming, they'd lose 1¼ men just getting within thrower-range, which pretty much buries them.

Could you let me set down my drink before I read your posts?

The drink came all the way on this one... MC, you easily have the best quotes of anyone in this game at TG!

In all seriousness, you bring out a great point. Everyone thinks their idea is the bomb... until 8 other people tell him or her to shut up (which wouldn't happen that way as Spade so nicely pointed out). I feel as though with the guys that have volunteered for this team, we should have no real issues with having people follow the orders of a captain. Whether it's me, fish, spade or whoever I know one thing - I'm gonna have some hardcore fun!

Re: Call to Arms and Legs....

Every team needs a captain to decide what is going to happen and how. Everyone else needs to follow that plan and give their input to the captain who can then do just what magna said "When Player X has an idea, the Cap'n can support it, reject it, or assign someone else to it." Otherwise its anarchy.

However, the captain needs to respond for his decisions at a later time and if his leadership is not producing results then he should be changed. Thats my take.

Leadership is selected on merit and experience; never popularity.

Re: Call to Arms and Legs....

Preaching that everyone is a mature gamer AND that it would simply be a popularity contest is just hypocritical. In my scrim experience, when we don't have an active captain, no one ends up listening to anyone else. I just realized that my name is in for Captain'ing, which may look bad to other people. I would rather have Chewy or Spade than me.

Re: Call to Arms and Legs....

My first impulse is to ask you what you think is wrong with your name, in a move to express that if you're basing that judgment on the fact that you are newer and don't wear tag that those aren't disqualifying aspects.

But my second impulse is to say nothing, since if you're already second-guessing your leadership capabilities, you're probably right in stating that others are superior selections.

So, instead I'll post nothing and see if I can dig up some scrap to make a reflector for my big antenna project.

No, I meant that when I'm saying we should have a vote, people might think that I doubt that I will get picked otherwise. I never doubt myself (have you seen me?), but I really don't want to have to go through what may be a possibly stressful process.
Edit: Big Antenna Project? That sounds like one of those wedding bands that just does covers of bad 80's songs. When they perform, the drumset would have "BAP!" on the bass.

Just so no one can say they didn't know. Everyone who volunteered to join the TG team, check your inbox here @ the forum. You should have a message from the wookie.

Re: Call to Arms and Legs....

Fish was trying to get me in here the other day. I suppose I could be useful for blowing some stuff up.

1. ContingencyPlan
2. ContingencyPlan
3. Demo, Medic, Sniper, whatever
4. No
5. Reserve.

I play just about everything but heavy and soldier (I hate being slow) but I can do those with reasonable proficiency too if needed.

I prefer the sniper approach. Getting within half a mile of Cpt Dude is a Bad Idea™
