Tactics forum dry

I get the impresion that we could be discusing tactics way more actively on the tactics forum but in general there is little discusions there. What is the ultimate dustbowl loadout and where should people be to cover all exits? what are the ultimate offensive proceedures and loadouts to break the last caps? Ideal map sentry placements, etc.

Just examples really. I just feel there is not enough tactical conversations going on in that forum. Thanks

Re: Tactics forum dry

Actually, I am curious why that forum has threads on a multitude of maps, but I think I have only ever played 5 or 6 maps on the TG server.

Because custom maps, and stock maps, and maps that aren't Dustbowl or Dustbowl or Gravel Pit or Dustbowl cause the server to empty out.

Last I looked you were one pretty damn decent user of the heavy class. Considering that being exceptional at this class is not just limited to running it alone, you could always come up with something along this lines of "Help the heavy help you."

Start writing. I know of quite a few players here who have loads they could dedicate to the tactics forum. It's just a daunting task sometimes.

Every map TG:TF2 hosts is in the mapcycle thread. You are more than welcome to hassle admins or look into mapvotes to run these maps. We're not worried about the mapcycle when there's 14 SMs on the server, because it comes down to the people playing, not the maps. But when SMs and regs hit a low count on the server, a custom map not high in popularity can reduce the playercount to 0, leaving those few SMs and regs on with no one to game with.

I don't get out much, so I don't know what maps are any good. The only custom maps I have ever played are "orange" and that nutsy mario one. I was more curious why, despite the fact that I play every other night, I had never seen the maps mentioned in that forum..now I know.

I'm sorry Donagel. My dad plays orange for some reason under my (and occasionally Johnny's) name. He's messing up my times, making Pyro my 4th least played guy (I play pyro like my 2nd most) and making Sniper my 2nd most (I play him like my 4th least). Good thing he can't beat any of my point records, or people would doubt my skillz.

Yea be glad you don't. Guess who was the poor sap running around public servers testing these maps? Part of the job I guess, now Bc is stuck with it.

Just pick a custom map and ask to try it out. Or ask for a mapvote.

Re: Tactics forum dry

Here's a link for anyone who wants some writing on TF2, it's a pretty good site. www.tf2strategy.com Not a whole lot of people contributing, but the quality and reliability of the guides is quite good as far as I'm concerned.

Would have posted this in the maps and tactics forum, but I don't think it'd get many views there, most people seem to post simply in general and nothing else.

If you don't see people writing there, maybe they are waiting for someone else to come up with ideas. If you have them, as fenix said, start typing. Don't hesitate to contribute in these forums in any way!

Ah, so much to quote, too lazy to multi-quote. Luckily, my friend the "at" symbol will help.
@Fenix- I spent a few weeks looking at every custom map I could, but I didn't find anything that looked polished enough to play (ie- really poor lighting)
@DonnyG- That's a very astute observation. I'll pass it along.
@ROCKS(cc:Chewy)- Yeah, don't be afraid to post what you think is a (not) good idea. Magna will inevitably say that you're wrong and we'll get into an argument which I will win by force. And I'll probably be on your side.

Re: Tactics forum dry

Talking about tactics huh?

I got one. When I entered a game on warpath today I was on the winning team (fish was on my team ) and we were doing really well and had pushed to their second flag.

All of the sudden the server kicks me in the balls and teambalances me to the other team. Suffice to say I thought I was screwed. With Fish's team on the offensive and Donagel scout rushing to our second every freaking ten seconds, I managed to get my team to bottleneck the tunnel after the second flag, stalling there until sudden death. Then in sudden death we managed to beat the other team cause they lost their momentum.

So I guess when the other team has full momentum, stall until sudden death to even the playing field.

That was hilarious, I must of captured that second point 6+ times before you spoiled my fun. Didn't they know there is a tunnel? On reflection, I should have gotten another scout or two to join me and we could have won the map....

Re: Tactics forum dry

Yea, also in reflection; I stayed back as engi, which was NOT how I played the rest of the game. I think if I went to the front lines, we would've won. I'm not saying that I was the reason that my team is winning a majority of the game (but I might be thinking it loudly), but it would've kept the team organized. Just for the record, it was me vs. 3 at the end with 10 seconds, so I could've just stalled and gotten a stalemate, but what's the fun in that?

Yeah, I remember thinking "I hope he had fun making us lose..."
