Re: Medic Achievement-Whore Thread
It's pretty sad when you have to go out of your way to farm achievements. And it completely misses the point of the achievements, making them practically meaningless. What's better - to have an awesome TF2 moment where you happen to heal a heavy while 4 attackers are shooting at him, or deliberately telling 4 buddies in Teamspeak to shoot at your target while you heal?
I'm for the unlocks as they change the dynamics of an aging game, making relatively stale maps new and interesting again, but it's discouraging to see so many people on many servers going out of their way to chase the shiny things at the cost of the gameplay itself. Sure it's temporary and things will calm down in a couple weeks, but it still sucks at the moment.
That being said, on most pub servers, medics have returned. For the TF2 population overall, giving people more of an incentive to go medic is a Very Good Thing, as they've largely been absent up until now.Beatnik

Re: Medic Achievement-Whore Thread
I don't think the Quadruple Bypass was a good example, but I know where you're coming from. But when a majority of these are either chance (see above or the falling damage one) or you have to go out of your way to do (see: Placebo Effect or the Uber Scout one), the artificial way is just as good. 5 medics in a circle healing each other while a pyro spins and burns us > waiting for a few weeks to get it on your own. The ones that are simply from skill by themselves (see: Trauma Queen or Big Pharma) don't feel any worse if you get them from playing well in game after you've already unlocked them. I'm still going to yell "BURN!!!!" into the mic when we go on a uber pyro streak. I wouldn't mind the next wave of unlocks to not be achievement based (like was stated as being considered in an interview), but they still need to make the achievements be skill and not luck based.

Re: Medic Achievement-Whore Thread
You get banned for playing on statpadding servers in vBF2. Banned. Globally. What does that tell you?
Statpadding/achievement whoring is bad, mmkay?

Re: Medic Achievement-Whore Thread
It tells me that there is a game called BF2, and then there is a soft-mod you guys play based on BF2. Kinda like how TG/CSS works.

Re: Medic Achievement-Whore Thread
That tells me that people are a bit uptight in BF2. Also that BF2 might not be about having fun, ergo, not the "game" for me.
Also, what's wrong with pistols n' knives? That sounds like fun. Are TG players not allowed to play on melee_mountain or melee_ringking? Because that's disappointing.Last edited by Fish #641; 04-30-2008 at 10:25 PM. Reason: Entertainment. Why else?
