Yoshies Vids
Scout: youtube.com/watch?v=Qe3EaanQH1g (low quality, the first one I posted to test)
Sniper: youtube.com/watch?v=f_blIYMo8zM
Sorry for the link formats, you'll have to copy and paste them because the board appears to require me to have 15 posts or more to actual post links.
These are older, which means its before I started joining the TG server regularly so they take place on some pub one somewhere. Lately though I haven't been recording anything but I plan on starting up again.

Re: Yoshies Vids
Some great stuff as Scout. Good decisions on when to pull out and when to ensue. I've actually started playing scout alot more and its actually a fairly powerful class once you understand it.

Re: Yoshies Vids
I like how these videos are different from most in that they aren't just highlight reels. If you see any other sniper video it's just clips of headshot after headshot that could have taken place over 2 weeks. Here at least, you can watch in silent horror as the hero dies, verifying their authenticity.
Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day.

Re: Yoshies Vids
Agreed, its the whole point why I posted an entire round. The fact of the matter is, everybody misses, everybody gets shot, and valve really stressed that sniper is only a support class. Some days I seem to miss everything, but other days I pop headshot after headshot.
I think one of the important things to note is that snipers are really only effective as much as their team is. If a team is turtling then snipers will only help stalemate. If a team is heavily offensive then the sniper can be much more use there.
Overall my two worst sniper maps are hydro (it is too easy for a sniper to get flanked if you're trying to be offensive) and 2fort (its a really boring sniper map). My two favorite however are goldrush (lots of great sniper positions) and warpath (also an excellent sniper map).

New video from a round a few hours ago:
youtube.com/watch?v=pq8DSCwkM5Y
With apologies to rocks.
I've tried to mix it up a bit. I cut out the boring parts (like respawn times, walking, long periods of inactivity) and added some music. I did not however cut out any moments where I died or silly mistakes I did. Let me know what you guys think.
Also this is the first video I have made thats taken place on the TG server. Hurray.
Theres quite a few good moments and some noscopes as well.

Re: Yoshies Vids
Man. That round was brutal. Wondering why you omitted the first round where you guys got steamrolled? Seriously though, I suffered much. The next part was getting pwned on defense by the same crew. I really think it was a large part due to the inexperience of our medics. They kept not firing ubers and dieing, firing them as soon as they had them or just plain not charging them. Not to take away from the spectacular sniping done in this vid of course.

Re: Yoshies Vids
Believe it or not I only recorded that and the beginning of the badlands round that happened after. But there would of been nothing to see in the mach4 map where you guys kept stealing the intel, the only reliable perspective I can get out of the source recorder is first person of just myself, and most of the time I was sniping (fish was telling me how much he was gonna own me with his sniping, then after dominating him he chickened out and went spy/solider), a video containing the voice constantly saying "the enemy has taken our intelligence" and the maybe two times I basically suicided myself with machete for a chance at stopping like 5 of you from capping intel wouldn't of been particularity interesting.
However if you recorded it in your perspective that would be a whole different story. I'm more than happy to give instructions on how I record my stuff like this. I don't use fraps or any dumb video recorder, all the tools I need are TF2 and windows movie maker. Interested to know?

Re: Yoshies Vids
By the way. What sensitivity do you use when you snipe? What mouse are you useing? Special mouse pads?

Re: Yoshies Vids
Okay, having been involved in mouse nerdage for a while, especially during the CSS era, please realise you must specifiy all of the following data for any of it to be useful.
Windows version. (2K and XP are a bit different, I don't know Vista)
Windows Sensitivity. (Traditionally expressed as 1 to 11, 6 being middle)
Acceleration/Precision setting. (None/Low/Med/High or "Enhance Precision" in XP)
Source sensitivity.
Mouse DPI.
If you use 2K, 6/11, None, then Windows has no effect on your mouse tracking. Anything else will. XP, 6/11, Unchecked is slightly disturbed but you need a registry hack to get it up to 2K quality, and the difference is small.
The 11-step slider is a very crude scale factor. As in "ignore half of the mouse motion events" (bad) and "take every mouse motion event and amplify it by two" (absurd). Thus, real sensitivity can be converted between these settings, but the centered setting is hands-down optimal.
Acceleration/Precision means each motion is run through a curve after velocity is measured. A few people are good with it, particularly those who simply always had it on and learned with it, or who used things like the Q3 railgun where you needed both precision sniping and 180° instant turns. But that makes all sensitivity measurements anecdotal.
Ultimately, millimetres per 360° is the best sensitivity measure.
I'm interested mostly in the pad situation. I went through a pad experimentation phase so I'm curious what people are tracking on.

Re: Yoshies Vids
I've found that having a good gaming mouse pad (I have a large steelseries gaming mouse pad) really helps, I actually tried using a lesser mousepad and it really did make a difference as I felt the inconsistencies. I just have a midrange wireless keyboard/mouse combo that you can see here: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/ke...s/145&cl=ca,en
Some people go crazy for the gaming mice/keyboards and say it makes a difference. I never found that it really did. As long as your comfortable with your keyboard and mouse combo and your mouse is a laser one then you're pretty much set.
Sensitivity varies, I think I have mine at like 6.0 but its influenced by other factors like the mouse itself and the windows setting. Your sensitivity should be set at something that you are comfortable with but it should allow you to do at least a 180 degree turn in one jerk of the wrist. If you set it too high you'll find yourself overshooting targets, if its too low then its going to take you forever to acquire targets. Whatever you set it to, you'll get used to it.
There's also basically two kinds of snipers out there. Theres the twitch aimers and the careful ones. If you're a twitch aimer you're basically making fast mouse movements to get the headshot (they're also commonly accused of hacking if they manage to master it) and careful is when you send an extra second or two to line up your shot. I'm a bit of both, if you do a lot of twitch aiming then you'll find yourself missing a lot more shots compared to if you spent that extra second or two. If you're aiming for a solider or heavy you want to spend the extra second to make that shot count (since it takes a few seconds to charge it up again), but if you're against another sniper then you probably want to do some more twitch aiming since when it comes down to sniper vs sniper its just a matter of who lands the headshot first most of the time.
If you're a beginner, I suggest starting out with careful aiming and working your way up. It also helps to have relatively new snipers on the other team as well, so then you can get some good practice in.
I'm much of a fulltime sniper these days (I play it about 90% of the time now), I keep improving even now but its important to keep in mind that sniper is still only a support class. Snipers are more effective on teams that are slightly more offensive/spread out, because if your team turtles up then you're most of the time clustered together making it easier for the other team to overwhelm you. As sniper I don't get more kills then effective heavies like rocks and capt. dude, I only get more score because headshots count x2, but score means little because as an effective support class, just your very presence can most of the time make the other team change tactics (like getting excessive spies/snipers to take me out which has happened fairly often, meaning less combat classes for their team which allows our team to push up), with the addition that you can take out key targets that can save your teammates from things such as immediate threats, medics, and engies.
As sniper you are at a severe disadvantage when dealing with spies, but fortunately there's a lot of stupid spies out there. Their revolver is better than your smg, but their knife is no match for your machete with the exception of backstabbing and facestabbing (most spies just keep stabbing even though you're about to murder them, but then theres spies like magna which will bring out their revolver and keep their distance, their damage output trumps yours, but not many spies actually do that). Generally there's multiple indicators that can help you against spies, it helps to wear headphones so you can hear footsteps if you're in a place where there's usually little of your teammates around, and you can also hear decloaking spies. In some situations there will be too much action and you won't hear any of this but majority of the time I've gotten spies this way.
Communicating as a sniper typically isn't a biggie. Since you'll be usually at the back you can sometimes keep your team updated with impending threats and you can sometimes see spies (either uncloaking or weird teammates hiding). I've actually found if the team communicates with me however, they can tell me what their biggest threats are, where the enemy sniper is so I can get him, if there's a spy in the area, etc. However you have to be very specific (I know that can be difficult). They've also planned out what they're going to do which means I can get into a position to cover them. I've found that a medic/heavy/sniper team can actually be really effective if done right.
The last thing is that a team only benefits from having just one sniper, sometimes even two. If you're consistently not helping the team or not keeping up with the other sniper(s) then its a good idea to change classes, sniper is too much of a situational class and teams would usually benefit instead by having another medic or combat class.

Re: Yoshies Vids
I said I was going to kill you because I had been playing like crap all week so I hoped that my usual cure of confidence would make me be able to kill you. Also, I tend to learn how the other person snipes after a little bit, allowing me to eventually beat them consistantly. Unfortunately, I still wasn't good and Yoshi's really fast. So I decided to use my new found soldier skill and test it out, which led me to dominate Yoshi for the rest of the round. Interesting side note, I was the soldier in the video that Yoshi couldn't seem to hit when his attention was focused on me from like 1:35-1:50. I'm so glad I got good at dodging as a medic before moving onto other classes.
