Personally I'm not going to enjoy the pyro update. It just means there's going to be way more suicidal pyros, the same thing that happened to medic. Suicidal Medics are useless for the team, and I have no doubt the same will happen with pyro.

Pyros are easier to snipe than medics though

The 2 days following the update will be bad, as always, but every update is good in my book. Especially classes I like to play. Things will die down quicker, methinks.

It'll take longer to prep the script than it will to farm the achievements on their own private servers.

Not really. All you need is to do is have the mouse1 release include a weaponswitch from flame to axe and reset the mouse1 release. You could "prime" the script either with your switch-to-flame key or a seperate key. It's the same as the stab-sap scripts for spy, except stab-sap doesn't work because spy sucks, stab doesn't work, and sapping is futile.

Or here's a technique: select the burnaxe (or whatever they're calling it) then go back to the flamethrower, and after setting someone on fire hit "q" to quickly select the axe, and then kill him. No real scripting required. Also, when you're done, "g" is taunt.

Dude I quickswitch and use default key assignments minus my scroll wheel. I don't really have any reason to do otherwise.

    Re: The Pyro is Next

    I use two pyro scripts:
thumb one: flamethrower to axe, strike continuously while held, switch back on release
thumb two: flamethrower to shotgun, shoot continuously when held, switch back on release.
that way i have medium and short range covered. pyro has no long range, so dont ask what i do there.

by the way, the "axtinguisher" is the most retarded weapon ever. do the math: half damage, but guaranteed crit. so you take away half damage and add back 25%. what's left? the same weapon that only does 75% damage but gives you pretty green lettering to look at when you hit someone. better to just get lucky with a regular crit.

We don't know how they're handling the multipliers. It could be half-normal-axe and triple-normal axe. Even if the crit is based on the lower damage base, most/all crits are x3 base, so you'd get at least +50% over normal axe, and no low rolls.

still, hardly worth the effort. I'd like to see a napalm-dispensing type flamethrower that could actually set terrain features on fire for a short period of time, basically the ability to create a barrier to ward off enemies, or at least set them on fire as they try to cross. downside would be that you'd be pretty much completely exposed while lighting the ground on fire and it could use like 3x normal ammo. talk about spamming start-gates!

I remember discussing that idea long before new weapons for anyone were even announced, because people kept chanting PYRO JETPACK in the Steam forums.

So he wouldn't die before getting close. I have yet to hear an idea that I like about Pyro, other than what Valve has said. I think what they mean by "all crits when on fire" is "195 damage when they're on fire", as that's what the normal crit of an axe does.
