Dude where have you been lately? You're like a recluse. What's going on?
Open reply since others likely noticed.

In short: I'm working on something. Slightly related to ... Tennis Lessons, but only indirectly.

    1) I've changed my schedule to be something more-compatible with getting employed, assuming an opportunity shows up. Thus, I'm not going to be on late-at-night for at least a while, and mornings aren't prime time.

    2) I'm working on An Old Project and I've decided I'm going to dedicate myself to it. Partly because it's old and I want it over with, and two, because there's a slight chance I can turn it into an income stream. I'd rather sink a month into An Old Project and have a chance at money in the future, than spend said time gaining nothing except the movment of a number on Valve's stat server from 300 to 400.

    3) I generally just don't bother to turn Steam on when I'm in Ubuntu and I'm in Ubuntu pretty much exclusively, now. Especially since Linux is more condusive to An Old Project than Windows 2000 is, for a number of reasons. I may remember to initialise it in the future, however, this is unlikely since Steam in Wine tends to grab the sound mixer because it is a greedy bast'id, rendering mute audio software that's actually making sound.

    4) As a side effect, and with the news that Valve will be releasing maps with the class updates, I don't feel any strong need to work on my map (another Windows task) at least for a while. If I go back to it, I'll damn-well have a proper plan for it. I make neat individual rooms, like "BLU Spawn" or "Final Capture Point" but it's a waste if I have no plan for threading them into a fun map overall.

    5) The drama of TG/MD/Server'sDown/FriesAreUp/etc. lowers my spirits. I need a couple weeks of not dealing with crap. I've found ... Tennis Lessons to be useful in that regard. Perhaps when I return everyone will have suddenly found themselves and straightened up. Probably not, but it's the same either way.

Well, best of luck during the off time and we'll pray that valve fixes backstab before you come back. Pipe dream, I know, but it never hurts to hope.

dont worry, the server hasnt populated in ages. Im wondering if there was less typing and more playing if we would have a solid, daily base to call home. Instead I find myself jumping around looking for a place to get a good game in.

Please see the link and press weekly in the sort colum to see the complete lack of action in this server.

I'm also on a break from TF2 (Preparing for upcoming PR scrim and chomping my way through CoH). I'm winding down from all the play in BFCL. We have our last match on Saturday.

Lets all agree to play on Friday night - 8 PM EST.

    Magna, I miss you.

On another note, I'm curious as to what you're doing. Tennis Lessons? An Old Project? (capitalization = significance!) Do tell, good sir. I won't steal your ideas. Promise.

On another another note, you got steam running in Wine? Do tell. I'm having problems with steam updates and stuff when I try to run steam through wine on Backtrack 2 distro. (roughly based off of slax...)

    COME BACK TO US.

A: I just installed Wine, jammed Steam down its gullet, and fired it up. You must install it to your virutal-C: or you will get errors instead of functionality, which stinks, because then you have two copies of your GCFs eating space, one set in Windows and another in Linux, though you can certainly not-install any games you don't wish to forfeit space to.

S: It's very not. I'll more-likey roll my own before that happens.

D: I'll need it. I'm not part of the *******s-who-yell-UYUGH!-with-every-swing clique, so I have no future in television.

...that tripped the world filter? And all this time I thought the censors were being goofy prudes for allowing the ass-half but bleeping the hole-half on local syndicated airings of South Park. How naïve was I to not know if you put them next to each other, you go from light chuckles to a sinful word so terrible that even Lord Carlin wouldn't utter it amongst his Seven Words.

You could probably create symbolic links to make Steam in Linux read the GCFs on your Windows partition so you only need one copy.

    Re: ?

Might work, might not. Apparently the problem is related to the filesystem itself. So either Wine would make that transparent, or it wouldn't do a darn thing. I can't be arsed to try; I'm still working on figuring out how to do... anything, really.

Because of the server problems, the final BFCL match is Saturday evening.
