Is anyone actually playing anymore?
There hasn't been a seeding request for four days, and the last four were all me. Ferris, are you out/busy/stuck in a ball pit?
When I check the Steam Commie monitor, I see people playing TF2. But they aren't playing here. YOU, YEAH YOU aren't playing here.
Is TG TF2's fate to be a little gimmick tournament that I pulled out of my bum, and maybe a bundle of people who used to play here and are inexplicably assembling to dork around in BFCL?
Remember when I said that Wednesday was officially If You Play TF2 You Play Here night? Gametracker says YOU, YEAH YOU didn't so much as roll a tumbleweed across the server. (Granted it may have been down as it was down when I checked it earlier tonight, but I didn't get a PM saying OMG SARVR DWN HALP, either.)
Thoughs and opinions regarding this situation are not only encouraged, but are compulsory.

Re: Is anyone actually playing anymore?
Free time for me is sparse and random. When I do get to play, it's usually just for a few rounds of Arena. And I had completely forgot about the whole Wednesday night thing.

I don't play here. In fact, I don't really play.

Re: Is anyone actually playing anymore?
I still play, just not when people here are on for obvious time reasons, so i play on other servers. But i do seed here when i see seeding going on.

Re: Is anyone actually playing anymore?
I do a lot of scrims/pugs these days with the TF2F guys. So when I join random servers its not to seed but to play with people I know.
I'll be totally honest though, I won't seed if I don't think its worth it. You magna, quit TF2 for a bit, and that was one of the reasons I joined up, was because you were fun to play with/against. That's not to say that playing with the other regulars isn't fun, but sniper vs spy was always to me a challenging matchup and I enjoyed it. I much more prefer that then playing against critsoliders or w+m1 pyros. Why would I play in games like that when I already have 5 other servers filled with other people I know that already are seeded? Really, thats what it boils down to. If you and some of the other fun TG people seed, I'll be more than happy to join in.

Re: Is anyone actually playing anymore?
I have no problem seeding. I have a problem seeding with no announcement. Who can make steam announcements apart from you Magna? And about Wednesdays, between 9-11 I have 11th practice so I can't be there.

Re: Is anyone actually playing anymore?
I believe I was on another server playing arena (which is far too chaotic and quick for my taste)).
Though this week I hardly see anyone on-line except Yoshi and sometimes Hassan (who I do not think is a TG guy) during my normal playing time."Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard." - H. L. Mencken

Re: Is anyone actually playing anymore?
Anyone who wants to be a seed leader, just say so. The only requisite is to be in the steam group and to tell me to click the box by your name.
Yosh: As not-Game-Officer-but-I-play-one-on-TG, I must seperate my personal and professional concerns. I've long realised I have more star power than most of Hollywood, and that it has been a strong factor in the TG server's popularity. My efforts have been geared toward getting players trained to play on the server, but the emperical evidence shows that instead of everyone coming to play TG at around 7~8 Eastern, everyone came in, saw each other and not me, and went to another server that isn't carrying the Magna Curse.
There is nothing wrong with this fact, it's really an interesting case example of psychology and the individual/group behaviors of humans. But consequently, I can't in good conscience run a TF2 server here if it has nothing to do with TG and everything to do with MC. The box we are on is the CoD4 box. TF2 had its own server but it wasn't strong enough to be worth the bandwidth bill, so it was moved to the new machine that was picked up for CoD4. While I'm confident that CoD4 has more than enough supporting members to cover its costs, objectively speaking if no one here is playing TF2, then another game, or a third CoD4, should be running on that machine. Hell, a Unreal Tournament 1999 server should be on there instead of TF2 if people would play it.
That is why I'm asking if anyone wants to play TF2 at TG anymore. I am considering sending the suggestion upstairs that TF2 be left on the server drive but not be hosted and the processor core(s) we use be handed to another game. It is not fair to the TG supporting members that their money goes to hosting my personal playpen when another game that they want to play could run a 24+-man game.Last edited by MagnaCentipede; 08-29-2008 at 04:19 PM.

Re: Is anyone actually playing anymore?
But I like your personal play-pen. It's fun. And some of the best players I know gather there. TG:TF2 is something very special. It's a community that can work together at will, without a set leader on the team. I recently played in a scrim and a match with cc// who are currently playing TWL. I played with them, and wasn't even impressed. I was approached after the game with a question. "I bet you haven't seen teamwork like that before, right?" and I honestly couldn't say "No, I haven't." because I've seen it during pub matches here at TG. Pub matches had the same, if not more teamwork, than a scrim match from a sponsored TF2 team. See how awesome that is? We just need to get the damn server seeded. Give people who want to seed regularly some powers in the freakin' TG group, so they can get it done. Also, we need to advertise to the rest of TG that TF2 doesn't suck, and it's a fun game. We need new blood here, new people who want to see this place succeed.

Re: Is anyone actually playing anymore?
I was on a bit of a rant there, and I guess I completely ignored your post above, I apologize. Also, I request those powers. <3
Edit: Is there any way we can publicize one of these seeding events on the website itself? Get some people to figure out what TF2 actually is? Maybe make a video or two or do something to showcase TF2, and what the game's like when you play it TG style?Young Man approached the black monolith that emitted a faint glow and humming noise, and it became clear to him that he should fire not where the alien ship is, but where it is going to be. -Magna Centipede

Re: Is anyone actually playing anymore?
I'd been hoping for word-of-mouth for many months now, but it never seemed to stick. If you feel like making a video, go ahead. I, and the denizens of the video production forum can likely aid with any difficulties.

Re: Is anyone actually playing anymore?
It's not that we don't want to play at TG, it's just that every other server in my favorites list has some appeal to it that no other one has.
FG1= Constantly seeded full of teamwork-oriented people (much like TG:TF2 used to be back in January/February)
FG2= Arena
FG3= Fun Maps
Duelduel2 server
MD 1 or 2= Full admin
ST= Paster/McCoys
cc//= competitive gaming
Q= My first TF2 server
TG= Magna Centipede
If we could get the January/February TG:TF2 back, I would be there all of my free time. Unfortunately, like begets like, and none of the people I personally recruit are going to join the forums. If I try, I can get the server up to maximum capacity, but that's a short-term solution to a long-term problem. We need to get people like Zephyr in here if we want to insure consistently good games.
