The Sniper Update
All of us who have been fanatically following the Teamfortress 2 blog know now that Sniper will be the next class that'll get more achievements and unlocks.
They also say it's going to be "It's actually shaping up to be the largest TF2 update yet, with multiple new maps and a bunch of gameplay tweaks.".
Looking how pyro update gave the arena maps that have little to no water at all that could extinquish flames, heavy update with goldrush maps (well, goldrush was released bit before heavy update), scout update arena map where scout could dominate and control point map I was thinking, what's stopping Valve from returning the classic game mode from TF2s dad, TFC, the hunted game mode.

From release there has been civilian class, and in the meet the sniper trailer in the beginning sniper pushes a civilian bobblehead saying "head shot". It is obvious that the game mode was going/is going to come, what would be more perfect a timing than the sniper update!
For all of you who aren't familiar with the hunted game mode, it's about one team protecting one player who is the hunted. He is civilian who only has umbrella for protection, that is why the red team is protecting the civilian from dieing and making it to the rescue zone on the other side of the map.
Against them is a all sniper team called the assassins (yellow team (in TFC there was 4 teams: blue, red, green and yellow)) who obviously try to kill the hunted. It was really fun game mode and only the team that had teamwork could win.|TG-E1st| Kebab-Kastike reporting for duty. | Why? Tubes! The internet is tubes!

Re: The Sniper Update
Wow this is a good day! But I think I remember there being other classes for the assassin team. That and if they were all snipers, the civilian is pretty much dead meat.

Re: The Sniper Update
Assassin team only had snipers. The snipers could only use their crowbar and the sniperrifle (not the machinegun thing).
The bodyguard team had medics, heavys, soldiers and uh, I think that's it.
The trick was always to keep one medic boosting the hunteds health and have heavy shooting up on the rooftops while the rest of the team moves out with the hunted. Soldiers would rocket jump themselves up on the roofs where they could have better luck on killing the assassins.
TFC is pretty much "re-made" in the source mod Fortress-Forever - it also has the hunted game mode with the classic vip_hunted map which was bit altered version of a Half-Life 1 singleplayer map.
EDIT: I think it's also worth mentoning how many diffrent gamemodes mappers made to the old TFC. One rather popular one was survival. Team full of civilians had to complete story level full of all kinds of buzzles. Oh the nights I spent playing those maps one summer. The memories, the memories. I can't wait till people start making stuff like that for TF2.
Then there was hunted golf. Civilians were golfballs and snipers then shot them to move them to holes. That was weird as heck aswell

Re: The Sniper Update
Interesting stuff, Kebab. I thought it consisted of Spys, Snipers, and another class.

Re: The Sniper Update
Some of the hunted maps had spies aswell, mostly custom though as there was only one official hunted map.

Re: The Sniper Update
If they don't release a server update that allows server admins to disable all unlocks (BF2 style) then I'm going to cry. Sniper update is just going to screw up my favorite class. I honestly don't like the majority of class updates in TF2 because you get weeks of people all going as the new class and ruined gameplay. I play with stock weapons in most cases anyway (besides the obvious medic needlegun, and ocassionaly the Axetinguisher)

Re: The Sniper Update
You can always counter the unlockhunters. What stopped snipers from killing all the people who were hunting for the heavy unlocks? - Infact I've never seen so many snipers.

I use most of them. Heavys sandwich for arena and all the pyro unlocks (even equipping them gives me huge disadvantage under water). The scout unlocks are pretty awesome aswell (I haven't ran into time when I'd need to use the energydrink though).|TG-E1st| Kebab-Kastike reporting for duty. | Why? Tubes! The internet is tubes!

Re: The Sniper Update
Yeah, I know where it's suppose to be used but I have never actually ran into place where I would be facing level 3 sentry with engergy drink as a scout.

A list of updates for the sniper. Looks like Hunted mode is out.

That's not all. That's like 2/5th or 7th of what's going to come into the update.

Re: The Sniper Update
Some of the new updates sound great! Longbow, payload race, oh my!
Apparently Valve are experimenting with different ways of unlocking the new weapons that don't involve achievements or grinding that class. It's rumoured to be item drops (kill a guy with a new unlock, take it from his corpse, it's now yours as well!) but no-one seems to know how the first people will get these unlockables.|TG-Irr| westyfield

Re: The Sniper Update
Achievements! First guy does the achievements and gets killed by guy x who picks up the weapon and so on. That way you don't have to do the achievement grind.
I like it however. I like to play all the classes and really achieve the unlocks by learning how they are ment to be played.|TG-E1st| Kebab-Kastike reporting for duty. | Why? Tubes! The internet is tubes!
