Beginners guide for new spy tools [Video]

Last week I worked on this small guide to get people familiar with the new spy tools.

On steam friend of mine talked me into posting that in the steam forums. I was waiting for the video to mature a bit and then take all the flames of the steam forums, however he insisted me to post it there.
It was recieved so well that I decided to post it here aswell.

Watch it here. Watch with HD for full viewing pleasure.

    Here's the intro:

    Gentlemen.

Can't figure out how to use the new spy toys? Do you sometimes feel like disappearing for a while?
    No worries, mate.

Get your skimask on, suit and fabulous tie and get ready to backstab your enemies. Boss didn't give you rase? Shoot him/her in the head for critical shot.
Your wife wants you to do the laundry? Disappear with your brand new Cloak‡ watch.
You must go through dangerous surgery? Worry no more, with dead ringer your doctor can have 2nd chance if he/she accidently cuts all your major veins.

First video by using recorded demo files and I must say, it's a lot easier on the harddrive space.
This guide has been edited and shot twice. First by playing the game and recording and then 2nd time with just demos. I lost some fantastic once in a lifetime footage (there was just TOO much footage) by doing so, but I think this version was better.
And belive me, I could go on and on about Cloak and Dagger, I just love that unlock. Heck, I could've made 10 minute guide just by talking about how awesome it is.

Finnish quality! Great video for new unlocks!

Good shots and pretty much full usage of all the unlocks and nice to include all the static info, it takes 16 seconds? Woah... And concentrated very well on the actual unlocks instead of going into the complicated spy tactics which was also huge bonus (as I've seen them all )

Gameplay was excellent, especially ambassador clips!

Nice! Thanks very much for making that, I have yet to find the C&D and the Dead Ringer but that should prove useful when I do! Great quality!

Thanks for the comments, gentlemen (and lady).

3 stickies is enough to kill a guy (as far as I know) 8 is more than enough to kill someone. It has been tested (by community) that spy with dead ringer can survive 16 stickybombs detonated at the same time.

At the moment I have one spare Ambassador, two spare huntsmen, two spare dead ringers and cloak&daggers. If you still need them when Valve adds the trading system Im willing to give them to you.

EDIT: Oh and due popular demand from Steam Community Forums, Im going to make how to use guides for the other unlocks aswell.

It would be a lot easier for me to type all the info in Finnish, but that would make it understandable to about six million people from which some hundreds or thousands own TF2.

Pretty good though I contest that the C&D is better for getting behind the enemy. If you've got your pathing down to a science the normal cloak is far easier to move from A to B undetected. It is because it does now reload with ammo. Normal watch is 10 seconds of movement before uncloak. C&D is 7 seconds. 7 seconds is too short for some areas you have to cross where 10 will do. Also once those 7 seconds are up you have to wait for the recharge.

On pl_badwater, for example, when the bomb is past the 2nd point I can get from Red base to Blu base (1st or 2nd) pretty much undetected and never once stopping. The cloak you get from the ammo pickups allows you to cloak through the open areas and only uncloak when indoors in little-used passages. C&D leaves you hanging by the pipes between the third and last points because you cannot cross that open area in 7 seconds. 10 is even pushing it since you have to hope noone is looking towards the stairs on the far side. The best I can do is get on top of the pipes to recharge while the battle rages right next to me. Not good. similar situations exist on the other maps as well since they were designed with the 10 second cloak time in mind.

However, I agree, once you get behind enemy lines with C&D staying there is a whole lot easier.

Sure, all the cloak watches are used in diffrent fashon.

With the default cloakwatch you have to be fast and just wish that your cloakmeter lasts until you can safely decloak. There isn't any ammo drops between the 2fort bases for example (except the ones in the sewers). You only got to hope that there are guns around that haven't been picked up. If you are lucky with the ammo drops you can move around undetected fast and rather safe, but you cant do anything if you are suddenly surrounded by respawning team of enemies and you don't have any chance to hide from them in time (aka de-cloak somewhere they can't see or hear you).
With C&D however you can choose when to uncloak if you even wish to uncloak. As I demonstrated in the video you can crouch-walk and stay hidden for a long time, long enough to get to cover. The engineers have no idea that you were there, neither did the pyros, untill you push that cold steel blade between their ribs.

No. With the standard watch you learn routes and learn to manage your cloak to only cloak when needed. It is a matter of learning routes and knowing which routes are viable and which routes aren't. That is, of course, map specific.

There isn't any ammo drops between the 2fort bases for example (except the ones in the sewers).
Granted. But you don't have to cloak the entire time. Sure if you're trying to cross the bridge but then you're running the risk of a bump or a stray shot. Pubs rarely hit the sewers. Cloak on for over the fortification, get into the water, decloak. You're pretty much clear up to the stairs from that point.

Granted. That is why I said once you're behind enemy lines C&D is better for staying there. But getting behind enemy lines, which is the exact statement I took issue with, is harder. You have less time to move. Yes, crouch-walking gives you something like 49 seconds of cloak time. But front lines are unpredictable places to move slowly. An errant grenade or rocket, you're dead. A scout trying to make a break for the flank nudges you, you're dead. Stray shots from other classes revealing you, you're good as dead. To traverse the active front line you need to move fast from one location where the enemy isn't looking to another location where the enemy isn't looking.

That is why I gave the example of pl_badlands. If the enemy team has the cart past the 2nd point you need the full 10s of the normal watch to move from A to B in several points of the map because you simply do not want to sit or crouch-walk with an active firefight raging around you. Which, I contend, you wouldn't want to do regardless of the map, even 2Fort's bridge.

Sure, you need to learn to use the cloak when needed, but there are times when you suddenly bump into an enemy - worst case cenario a pyro - around a corner. Your best bet is to run into a health kit or water and try to stay away from her line of fire whole cloaked or just hope she dies first. She runs as fast as you can and her flames have large reach to them - you cannot run away unless you kill her or hide.
There's actually part in the video (I think) where I manage to survive pyro attack in pl_badwater by doing just this. There's no way I would've survived if I hadn't jumped down from there and landed on that health kit and stood there cloaked hoping she won't hit me with the flames - even with the cloak time the ammo box would've given me.

They are used in diffrent ways.

Also the thing with crouch walk is that you can preserve your cloak and look around. When you see someone shooting at you stand up and run away from the line of fire. Just what I did when the medic almost blew my cover in 2fort in the video. I didn't sit there to take the beating the missed grenades gave me.

2fort is the classic map from the old TFs- why not.

Na I just hate it, with a passion . Too much comp play. Turbine is bearable at 6v6 but any other ctf maps work shockingly badly.
