Good servers.
I 'm starting this thread because I have difficulties finding good servers these days, where not half the team plays as the same class and where comms are used to cooperate. So plz post servername/IP if you have any good ones in your favourites. No servers with all talk please, I hate em and the fact that there 's no filter to exclude em. I also like a variety of maps so no 24/7 <insert mapname> servers.
My favourites:
9men.org.uk / 78.129.142.80:27015
Great server, great players, limited classes, option to vote for team scrambling, etc... probably my most favourite server but for some reason hardly populated these days.
Texas ... Teamplayers...TF2 / 72.233.44.146:27019
Good server, players use comms and usually good teamwork.

Re: Good servers.
I usually play on DIG or F7Lans, occasionally Lotus. But teamwork is kind of hard to come across.
DIG- Limited classes.
F7- Usually has all talk enabled, I like all talk though. Usually fills up around 6:00 PM
Lotus- Usually full.

Re: Good servers.
I enjoy playing on the Focused Gamers (-F-) server when it's seeded.

Re: Good servers.
For Euro players: Simiancage and UKCS are fairly good, I'm not sure if they have alltalk on or not, but the people are generally friendly and willing to play as a team. The Rock, Paper, Shotgun and PC Gamer UK servers are also good, but they do have alltalk on. Most of the servers mentioned are fairly well-administrated.
(Those servers are more for the 'looking for a fun game' player, rather than the 'looking for a serious competitive match' person.)

Re: Good servers.
I usually play on:
The Hampshire Heavies
HH1.THEHH.CO.UK:27015 - |H|H| TF2 #1 - 24 slots TF2
HH2.THEHH.CO.UK:27015 - |H|H| TF2 #2 - 24 slots TF2
Servers are seeded most of the time and community is good. 50% of the time you may bump into people who actually have microphones and you can get good teamwork going on. Occasionally, however, the servers don't differ from normal pub.
ATF Humpaholics Anonymous
69.61.8.37:27015
Some of you must've played with the ATF guys. Some of them hang out occasionally in our CSS server, for example and one of them hinted me with this server they run.
It's an alltalk server - so you aren't going to have very tactical games, but I've failed every time in not having fun. The server is seeded at US times always (sometimes even on EU times) and almost everyone has microphone. Even Browna3, who played with me there couple of times thought that the server was awesome.
On this server playing recorded clips though voip is allowed - if they are witty and funny. You will not hear people playing their whole mp3 folder there though - it's not like that.
There's also some internet celebrities there. Fella called Don Newman plays there
regularly. His deal is that there's news anchor called Don Newman and he plays voice clips of him talking sometimes on the server.

It's really funny stuff. Don't judge if you haven't tried. The guy is a legend there.
I used to play on Lotus too but the way they run their servers, I don't like it. Theres like 10 rounds of each map and it gets really boring when you play something like 2fort that long. There's no admins around either to change the map.
Then there's times when some clans come there to practice and teamstack. It's either too hard or too easy - not fun either. I haven't played there after the clan was there every time when I wanted to play.
EDIT: And oh yes, the Focused Gaming server is awesome, but it's only seeded around 4am where I live so it's rare treat for me.Last edited by Kebab-Kastike; 09-09-2009 at 03:45 AM.

Re: Good servers.
I dunno how far you want to go down the tactical thing but TF2F have good servers which can be great fun. The one I play on almost exclusively though is their 16 person nocrit/random damage server (208.100.17.252:27015). It emulates competitive play to an extent. Haven't played on it in a while but it used to fill at about 6 or 7 est I think.
There's pugs (pick up games) if you want to try competitive play (6v6 no crits/random damage). #tf2.gather.us on gamesurge.net (irc) is the main US gather system as far as I know. http://wiki.gotfrag.com/index.php/Tf2.gather.us has more info on it.
There is and 8v8 somewhere in Europe similar to tf2f but I don't remember the ip :/. For pugs in Europe it's #mpuktf2.pickup on quakenet.org. http://forums.multiplay.co.uk/team-fortress-2-pickups/ is there forums with lots of info (more so than the US counterpart).
http://www.gotfrag.com/tf2/story/43759/ is a guide to competitive play for beginners written by Waar. It's a good read even if you have no interest in competitive play. Also www.ubercharged.net are running a series of articles about getting into competitive play at the moment too. And so ends my plug for competitive TF2

*Keeps his mouth shut about competitive play not using stock values therefore being something undesirable to most...*
**Still cannot understand why people complain about crits when they're random...**

Re: Good servers.
Yeah, I have nothing against crits either (but I don't like no crit servers).
I'd like to point out that they aren't totally random - how much damage you have done on that session does have an effect on how many crits you can throw at enemies.
You can test this in the training map called walkway for example. Kill hundred heavy bots in it with engineer for example and then use your melee weapon (melee weapons have higher crit chance than guns) and you'll notice that about 2/3 of the hits are critical hits.
Random, yes, but not as random as the random drop system where how good you are doing doesn't have any effect (had to say it
).

Re: Good servers.
I play mostly on UKCS now, usually a few guys around with a mic and the servers are always seeded. They have about 6 servers so there 's plenty of maps/gametypes to choose from.
Thx again for the replies.
