Re: Uh oh!
Well, this whole dog class thing surfaced last week and it was all over the TF2 forums. Just about every second post was about this fake update page someone made.
Community really liked the idea and prolly sent Valve thousands of e-mails.
This is valves response. It's pretty much "We'll think about it".|TG-E1st| Kebab-Kastike reporting for duty. | Why? Tubes! The internet is tubes!

Re: Uh oh!
I'm hopeful.
I love these kind of things. Engineer has always been my favorite class. I love supporting.

Re: Uh oh!
I'm not sure about the tracking people feature but all in all it sounds pretty good to me.
Class that can bring metal to engineers and bring healthkits to front lines would be welcome add on.
It would also be class that has strong melee weapon (teeth).
It does sound a bit like scout. Scout was suppose to have unlock backpack that enables him to carry stuff and drop them, kinda like in TFC where all classes had backpacks which they could throw away - help engineers get metal and other classes excess ammo they don't need (for example, heavy doesn't have any need for rockets or metal)...
It would be as weak as scout, but yet bit stronger. It would be fast, but couldn't dodge as well (no double jump). It could carry the intelligence on it's carrier thing but couldn't attack while carrying it.
Scout is strongest at close range. Guard dog would be good at close and medium range.
It wouldn't be scout class. All in all it sounds very balanced and wonderful idea for tenth class.
EDIT: VALVe is not adding the dog in the game. Proof.Last edited by Kebab-Kastike; 09-22-2009 at 08:12 PM.

Re: Uh oh!
This would be a cool idea, if not over powered.

Re: Uh oh!
The first time I looked at this, I thought it had the potential to be over-powered. You could detect spies rather easily, you are smaller in stature, thus making you a smaller target. I'm sure this would be a fast class as well, combined with "the Hanger" weapon, you can strafe enemies. I don't know, maybe I'm over-thinking it.

Re: Uh oh!
The hanger combined with increased speed would fall back to the beta problem of giving SMGs to scouts. Too much firepower on something too fast. Still, its an interesting concept and could work if it, say, had the power of a level 1 sentry or pistol with a slightly slower firing rate.
The smaller profile can easily be countered with lower health just like the scout. The screenshots show 125, but dropping the health to something low like 75 or 80 would balance the benfit of 'harder to hit' with the problem of 'easy to kill'.
The main purpose of the guard dog seems to be just what the name implies: a guard. As such its ability to point out spies or hunt down mission critical enemies (like medics) seems like a good idea. On the flip side, the spy could probably easily down a guard dog with the revolver or ambassador if the health is low enough, but it'll at least force the spy to drop disguise to deal with the threat.
I like it. Kinda wish valve would play with the idea. It'd be interesting to see them spreading even further from the conventions of TF1.My sanity is not in question...

Re: Uh oh!
The main weapon was described to be weak. While the non-human standing might give the dog an edge it would still be lacking firepower.
I agree with the spy hunting. It would make spies rather useless if this would came to be. Pyro and guard dog team could keep the base spy free without much problems (if there's 2nd spy they might still have a minor problem).
But let's not forget that the guard dog class isn't going to come, as TF2 team leader Robin has said.
When (note, I'm not saying if) there's going to be 10th class it's going to be Civilian. Class with only melee weapon to protect him.|TG-E1st| Kebab-Kastike reporting for duty. | Why? Tubes! The internet is tubes!
