Erm... HELP!
I finally broke down and installed TF2 even though I have had it since its release. But for some reason the game freezes about 5 minutes into any match and I have to restart my computer to get things back to normal.
My system specs:
Windows XP Pro 64bit
Intel Core 2 Extreme 3.0GHz
4GB ram
Nvidia GTX 285
I use on board sound
I really want to finally play this game so please if you know anything I would be most grateful.

Re: Erm... HELP!
It freezes for ~15 seconds (happens to me a lot when I first start the game) or freezes for over 1minute and sound loops?
If you didn't wait for it to stop looping (usually if it freezes for 1 minute you pretty much need to restart because you can't see ctrl+alt+del screen or alt tab) it comes back to life after a while. What I found to help was that I start TF2, ctrl+alt+del and set process priority for hl2.exe to high. That makes the game run smooth for me.
Also check if you have multi core rendering option set on. If it isn't set it on, if it is, set it off. It may cause problems.
Also check out the official support site and see if any of those help you.
EDIT: Also couldn't help but notice, is Miami spelled wrong in your location?

Re: Erm... HELP!
Thanks a lot Kebab but I was playing today and got a blue screen of death. I'll try those things you suggested in a bit. But more importantly thank you for pointing out the Miami typing error thing in my location .

What did the blue screen say?
Don't say it was n4_disp.dll?

Re: Erm... HELP!
I can't remember what the blue screen said and i am kicking myself for not writting it down but it had something to do with memory. After messing around with the value stuff it is either some kind of memory problem or a problem with sound drivers since I have both Creative and Realtex.

Re: Erm... HELP!
Well all the freezes would suggest that you are running low on memory. 4Gb is more than I have and should be enough. You should close all the programs you don't need from the background.

Re: Erm... HELP!
Try going into advanced video options and disabling multicore rendering. I get really bad lockups whenever I used that setting.

Re: Erm... HELP!
If you're using Windows Wireless Zero config for a wireless card, I've found that that introduced several short freezes every few seconds in both TF2 and PR. Switching to my belkin-provided solution for wireless config seemed to work a lot better.

Re: Erm... HELP!
If you're still having this problem you can try turning off Steam Friends while playing. Just go into the game, shift+tab, go to your friends list, then on Status click Offline. Steam friends causes lots of lag for lots of people although usually not full freezes like this however it never hurts to try.

Keep in mind, if you do that, you'll never "find" any items in game.

Re: Erm... HELP!
Send me the DUMP file and I 'll tell you what 's causing it.
DUMP files are created under %windir%\minidump (C:\Windows\Minidump in my case). Just change the extension from .dmp to .txt and you should be able to attach it.
