Re: Impression?
I agree - it's certainly better, but I think as time goes on you'll find that most of exploits come right back - rocket and demo jumping, crack jumping, etc. I did notice that the jumping is subdued, so yes - there are little tweaks here and there that smooth gameplay, but in the end it's still insanity.

Re: Impression?
Yeah, rocket jumping is here, but is greatly reduced compared to the older versions of Team Fortress. Also the lack of grenades makes it better then previous versions.

Re: Impression?
Have you checked out Fortress Forever?

That was only half joking, actually. I played a few rounds of FF while I took breaks from troubleshooting my TF2 install, and it really is almost the exact same game as TF was way back when.Beatnik

Re: Impression?
No, never did. I'm thinking purely of TFC, though, I played that on and off for years whenever I got too tired of the more 'serious' games.
Don't get me wrong, I like this game - it's amazingly polished for a beta, and as we've said many of TFC's quirks/exploits have been managed well. I was just surprised to see how nostalgic this version really is. It's still pure cartoony fun, and it is done very well.

Re: Impression?
Okay, defence really outpowers offence and from what I've seen on the server so far, on the control point maps like that train station, generally people would rather hang back and defend the central point rather than commit to attack the next point.

Re: Impression?
Nah, not at all. If anything, and organized offense will overpower just about any defense. The Medic's Overcharge combined with a Heavy Weapons Guy is a real defense breaker. Que up two of them with an organized assault force and your going to smash that defense into the ground.
It is very easy to defend the maps with unorganized teams tho, I'll give you that.I am the one, I am the zero, I am your low resolution hero.

Re: Impression?
Sometimes the best defense is offense! Give 2 hands to the spies who kill the medics before they have a chance to overcharge!

Re: Impression?
I absolutely despise the short round timers that lead to sudden death on some maps almost as much as I can't stand the critical strike system. I don't like one-shotting another soldier because I won the random number generator game and got a crit and losing when you should have won because the other guy got a critical strike is one of the things that I can see wearing down my enjoyment of this game over time.
