Re: Lots of crashes
I had a really nice looking and incredibly smooth experience until yesterday when I looked into the video options. I noticed that real widescreen support was in there, and I set it to match my monitor's native resolution. After that change, the game stuttered all over the place and was hardly playable.
I then stepped the resolution around to a series of settings, including what I thought was the original, and I couldn't get rid of the problems. In fact, somewhere in this, the indicator which shows which CP's are in play just vanished off of my screen, and I played a series of rounds without a clue about the objectives. Finally, I rebooted my machine completely, and it went back to normal.Peace through fear... since 1947!

Re: Lots of crashes
It's been running perfectly for me, only the first day couple crashes, now it still takes about 3 minutes to start up.

Re: Lots of crashes
My crashes mostly consisted of crashing during the loadscreen onto a server and crashing between map changes. Every once and awhile I would crash in game.
I ended up doing a complete reformat in an effort to remedy my crash problems for this game. I'll update after a few hours of gameplay to see how well it worked out.
Edit: I havn't crashed once except for an alt+tab out of the game since I've reformatted.Last edited by ultrablue; 09-21-2007 at 08:50 AM.

Re: Lots of crashes
Did the update today help with any of the crashing? I don't want to bother upping my resolution if others haven't seen success.

Re: Lots of crashes
Yes, it fixed the resolution related crashing. I can now boot the game in 1280 x 960 without the neverending black screen.

Re: Lots of crashes
Hmmm - I got the update and haven't been able to join. The loading screen freezes with the steam process on 100% CPU forever. It seems to hang the video driver - If I remote login it unfreezes and I can kill the steam process tree.
My resolution worked fine at 1920x1200 before the update with widescreen enabled. Maybe a reboot?Gigabyte P35-DS3R, 2GB, 8800GTS 640MB, Core2Duo E8400

Re: Lots of crashes
I was getting tons of crashes (sounding sort of similar). A video driver update fixed all my problems (I hope, no crash in a good two hours of playing last night).

Re: Lots of crashes
This isnt a crash but I noticed that if you alt tab (perhaps its video drivers), and alt tab back to TF2, the menu (doesnt happen while playing in game), is all black. Then, if you mouse over where the menu options would be, you can hear them click, and you can select the lowest one and hit enter to quit. Other than that, everything is black.

Re: Lots of crashes
My only problems stem from alt-tabbing in XP. It will start switching back and forth, really quick, and will take me about 3 minutes of patience, before it finally goes back in game. It's a beta though!

Re: Lots of crashes
Update caused it to go black when alt-tabbing.
