Re: Lots of crashes
I have been lucky, not one crash since installing Steam
I have not had Steam on my rig for years... BUT back in the day I was never able to ALT-TAB out of any Steam game.. well I could ALT-TAB out, but could not get back in the game... I tried to ALT-TAB the other night from TF2, when going back to the game it was totally messed up(could not use mouse to select anything/anywhere, fire still worked).
Last night, people were trying to Xfire me while I was playing HL2 (the OG).. I didnt get one message until I quit the game, by then each of them was logged off, but didnt get that message in the bottom of xfire message box until I tried to respond. NOT to mention, even the Steam messages(PM) dont go through when you are playing.. BUT you get that little pop up everytime a friend starts/stops playing any Steam game.
and people wonder why I hate Steam
that is for another thread

Re: Lots of crashes
My guess is that it might have to do with video drivers. Another problem I have noticed is a memory leak that occurs in the game itself. After being online for like 3 hours in the server, besides the round reset "lag spike" that occurs, during play I also would randomly get a soft freeze for 20 seconds where nothing happens, I can hear the voice server, everything says NULLNAME, etc. You'd think it would be my computer, but this machine gets 300 fps on TF2, and doesnt come close to running out of memory. It could just be another process that suddenly takes up 150% of my CPU, but Ive been testing this with everything terminated and whatnot as well. Oh well as we like to say, its still BETA.

Re: Lots of crashes
Whatever the update did, i can play in 1024 x 768 now without any crashes. I plan on upping the graphics next time i play to the recommended as well.

Re: Lots of crashes
This isnt a crash but I noticed that if you alt tab (perhaps its video drivers), and alt tab back to TF2, the menu (does not happen while playing in game), is all black. Then, if you mouse over where the menu options would be, you can hear them click, and you can select the lowest one and hit enter to quit. Other than that, everything is black.I have the second one happen with forceware drivers 162.18 (current official) but not the first. I am now using 163.71 (foreceware beta) and the first happens but not the second. So I am guessing it's a driver issue and hopefully it will get handled ><.Originally Posted by boudreux View Post
My only problems stem from alt-tabbing in XP. It will start switching back and forth, really quick, and will take me about 3 minutes of patience, before it finally goes back in game. It's a beta though!

I love gaming, mmmmmmmm

Re: Lots of crashes
I updated drivers to the current official force ware drivers, didn't fix the problem. I then changed security settings for how my computer handles steam, and now the alt+tabbing and community problems are fixed.
On another note:
"There was an issue affecting stats today. If you were playing during roughly a 1 1/2 hour window you may have had some stats reset for the classes you played during that time. We apologize for the inconvenience." - Valve
Some people, such as myself, lost all their achievements (meh). But worst of all, it half reset the personal stats, such as how much time I have spent on certain classes to zero. In the words of the scout, "this sucks on ice!"

Re: Lots of crashes
I've been pretty good without any crashes whatsoever. However the Steam Community has never shown up for me. I assumed it was normal for some reason that Valve wanted to hinder you for some god awful reason in accessing your friends list and getting friends to play.
Anyone suggest a fix? The gameoverlayui.exe just wont' run when I boot up TF2. It works on say Bioshock. I have my firewall set to "Allow" I just don't get it.
