Lots of crashes
Anyone have a fix for this? I can hardly get through a single round before TF2 freezes and then comes up with a HL2 error and i have to quit out. With the extremely long load times, its very annoying

Re: Lots of crashes
Found this on totaltf2.com
Does your game suddenly freeze, and your sound start skipping? Here's a working fix for your problem.
1. Right-click on Team Fortress 2 in the Steam games menu.
2. Click on Properties.
3. Click on Set launch options.
4. Type the following into the launch options field:
Change the two pound signs to the resolution of your screen. For example, if you want to play using 1024x768 resolution, type-fullscreen -width # -height # -refresh 60
You may also need to change the refresh number to something like 70, but for most people it works at 60.-fullscreen -width 1024 -height 768 -refresh 60
5. Click OK.
6. Start Team Fortress 2, and don't worry about the glitch anymore! It's fixed!

Re: Lots of crashes
I've been playing Episode 1 the last couple days and have problems when loading. Everything hangs for quite a while and then there is some DX8 error message displayed and I have to reload. Will try those options.

Re: Lots of crashes
I literally just moved all my video specs down to minimum levels and the game finally runs without crashes.

Re: Lots of crashes
Ive been playing on max settings, and I haven gotten 2 crashes thus far. Once when I tried to check the scoreboard, and once while a new round began to load. Lots of people are reporting crashing issues. I hope they roll out a patch prior to release to alleviate some of the crashing issues
.

Re: Lots of crashes
Well i already have all my settings on low. I made the game open in windowed mode, and although the crashes are less frequent they still happen a lot. Most of the time i cannot get through an entire map.

Re: Lots of crashes
Try turning off the Steam community in-game thingy (the x-fire like ability with your Steam friends list). I notice it pops up a lot in game and it may be causing you to crash.

Re: Lots of crashes
Try this:
In the launch options, put in
-dxlevel 80
That drops the Dx level the game uses to 8. It speeds things up a bit. Once in game, you'll have to readjust your video settings. After that, type mat_savechanges in console.
Important: After you exit the game, make sure you remove the -dxlevel 80 from launch options before firing the game back up or it will reset your video settings yet again. Hope this worksLast edited by whistler; 09-19-2007 at 01:34 PM.

Re: Lots of crashes
Crashes are more frequent with your suggestion whistler. Happen within 20 seconds of joining a server.

Re: Lots of crashes
Then it's probably not a graphics issue unless you're running bare-minimum.

Re: Lots of crashes
Playing it in 640 x 480 has solved my crashing problems. Its not as bad as youd think it would be either.

Re: Lots of crashes
I have to be honest, after you sniped me for the 5th time tonight, I was hoping your game would crash...
