    What classes are you playing?

With the large number of kits in the game, and everyone starting to have enough time to test out various kits what kits do you find yourself playing/enjoying more then others?

For me, when I'm on offense, I'm really liking the Demoman or the Doc. I didn't think that I'd like the Demoman from the introductory videos, but it's a fun class to play. I like that the two weapons the Demoman has are flexible for both defense and offense. The straight grenade launcher is great when you're taking ground and moving forward. And the sticky bombs are excellent for defending a choke point temporarily as you're making an assault or lobbing them into a heavily defended position to take out enemies that are hunkered down. The other thing that is fun for me to play is a "heavy shadow" as a Doc and let them do their thing. Of course, this is just as frustrating when you're on the receiving end of that pair.

When I'm on defense I like the Engineer and Demoman. Demoman for the same reasons above, and Engy for the obvious.

The demo is not fun for me anymore. Sure, I'll probably get used to it, but I miss the shotgun and det packs WAY to much. The det pack, when used properly, can DECIMATE in incoming push. And it forces them to react differently.

I play Medic... a lot. Because it's SO important and no one likes to play support. If I'm not doing that, I'm probably playing engineer if the map warrants it. My backup is usually soldier which from my short time playing it is actually my best class. I can do some serious damage with or without medic backup.

The only classes I haven't spent a lot of time on are Scout and Spy. Mainly because (at this point) they are both "rambo" classes. Now, with teamwork, they will make great additions to teamwork, but right now they only offer the "LOL I knifed/batter-uped you!" aspect.

Re: What classes are you playing?

I've played all of the classes a bit now.

Scout - I couldn't make good use of this class, but I didn't try for long - their crazy jumps let them appear out of nowhere, but their best weapon is really the bat, so you've gotta get close or get away
Soldier - Very good on defense, good on offense, especially with a Medic
Sniper - I really couldn't find a good use for the sniper, but on some maps they can provide a key snipe on a pushing Heavy - they can also take down exposed turrets with a few shots
Demoman - good for busting up choke points on offense
Heavy - good on offense with a Medic
Pyro - killer on defense in CQB, great for catching spies, and great for pushing a CP attack over the top by wiping out close defenders, but terrible when caught alone at mid range
Medic - absolutely necessary on any team for success - makes the heavy into a killing machine and with uber on, any defense can be pushed back - best kept out of danger until the uber is ready
Engineer - good for providing turrets to prevent flash attacks by the opposing team - can do some killing on the side, but they are best kept alive, like the Medic
Spy - good for taking down turrets on offense and flanking and backstabbing Medics on defense

I think that's all of them.

A team needs a good spread to be effective. You just need to avoid having too many support classes. 2 of anything is usually all you need. I cringe when I see a team with 4 engineers or spies.

Oh and for me, my picks are:
Offense - Medic or Heavy in a pair
    Defense - Pyro or Soldier
    Peace through fear... since 1947!

Re: What classes are you playing?

After realizing I didn't have to wait for the rifle to settle (2142 habit), I was loving the sniper. I was having a lot of fun taking down heavies and medics.

Scout seemed very very fun, just have to play more.

    Soldier was a blast!

I wanna get more time with the engineer and medic, seem very fun.

Engineer - building infrastructure is fun plus you can set up your very own forward base
Demoman - funky, versatile, and fun
Medic - high amount of teamwork needed but can be very devastating with the right partner (plus it reminds me of Ghostbusters )

I love the engineer. Setting up turrets and teleporters for your team is fun :P. It's fun to be a medic when everybody is using their 'medic' calls consistently.

FYI, you do have to wait for the sniper rifle to settle. There is a yellow bar that indicates how much damage you will do with your shot. At 100%, a headshot will kill any class. A shot fired from the hip or after a quick zoom will do far less damage. It has been my experience that the sniper is one of the more difficult classes to play.

Pyro. Even if it is slightly gimped at the moment, flamethrower/shotgun combo is just deadly. Just set them on fire, if they start to run switch to the shottie and blast away. Even if they kill you, the enemy ends up dieing due to being on fire. Hopefully they either increase the Pyro's running speed or increase the range of the flamethrower.

I had some good moments with the Spy, but the smell of cheese doesn't come off so easily.

I'll probably stick to Pyro, even on the open map like Hydra I was getting decent kills in some areas.

Yeah... I'm terrible with the pyro, but the presence of an enemy one really upsets me. They can take out the low health classes pretty quick and the wall of fire is hard to shoot through. I'm hearing a lot of people think the class needs a buff, but honestly I think the pyro does the trick.

A pyro can't take out a heavy or soldier easier, but pretty much all the other classes fry up real quick.

Oh, yeah, I know that. But thats just damage, not actual deviation. You can strafe and shoot and not worry about your shot flying off in a random direction. The charge thing is cool, just so different from what I've gotten sued to.

Pyro is a pretty sick class. You can save yourself by jumping in the water though. Waffle was on fire and I told him to jump in, and apparently it put it out.

For me, my favorite class has been the Engineer. The many options available make the class very interesting.

I think a team with 2 engineers is perfect. Two tele-pads are enough for a whole reinforcement wave to quickly return to the front lines. Two dispensers create enough health/resources for an entire team. Two turrets can compliment each other's blind spots nicely.

I don't think people realize that engineers can heal/upgrade each other's turrets. Two engineers defending two turrets is a show stopper, and always forces the other team to adjust their strategy.

=) I think it is an awesome way to balance the sniper rifle. The damage inflicted when "firing from the hip" is much lower, but still accurate. The damage after sitting for a second scoped is enough to kill any class with a single shot. Absolutely perfect.

If you do the "dev commentary" mode you'll get to hear a little bit about the dev's thoughts on the issue.

Scout on offense because i'm a speed/movement junkie.
Sniper defense is growing on me, especially since his autopistol is powerful enough to get you set up in the right places.

I am still learning the spy, pyro is really fun for cleaning a room, never played the solider. If we need an engineer or medic I am good at them, I just don't really have fun - its pretty obvious where to place sentries and teleporters and dispensers or who to heal and when to ubercharge.

We need more voice communication on the server and some more teamwork, then people will fall into roles. I want to form a squad called 'Squad 5' - pm me if you are interested.

Looks like i'm gonna end up scout/sniper/spy but for right now the roles all serve such distinct purposes its easy to switch a lot and play them right.

Re: What classes are you playing?

My personal favorite is the Soldier. Just solid on Offense and Defense and can crank out some righteous damage when paired with a Medic.

Second is a tie between Medic and Engineer with Heavy right behind that. I always wonder what a team is thinking when they have no medics. Hell, we capped a control point this morning with 3 medics during a sudden death. Have to say that that was pretty damn funny.

Haven't really tried any other classes at the moment, but I'm interested to see how they play. Scout, Pyro and Demoman all look pretty fun in their own way.

Spy.....just can't bring myself to try one yet. Just seem cheap, though a well played one can be the single most distruptive force in the game IMO.

Oh, and I have to say that the single best touch in the game for me is the way the Pyro's voice is muffled due to his gas mask. I always crack up when I hear them talk.

Just too much fun for one game.
    It's all in the Reflexes.

Well, the 3rd was communicating like crazy last night, just happened to be on our TS channel. I think I'll try and use the built in VoIP and see how it goes.
