Question: Rocketjumping?
I'm still wondering on whether to buy this game or not, but as a veteran of old-skool QWTF and Q3TF (and yes also TFC...) i am really interested in seeing a new TF-based game on the scene.
Just a quick question on the game mechanics: in QWTF and the other TF games, it was possible to rocket jump, gren jump (as a soldier) and even concussion jump (as a scout). In essence, you would use the splash damage from the explosion to reach certain places such as the balcony on 2forts. I haven't read anything on this subject, so i am wondering if these kind of interesting tactical moves are possible in TF2. |

Re: Question: Rocketjumping?
Demomen can "Sticky" Jump and Soldier's can Rocket Jump.
Scouts get a Double Jump, but that works differently than the 2 I mentioned above. All 3 have their tactical uses depending on the maps and I'm sure many more will be discovered as the game matures. Good stuff. ![]()

Re: Question: Rocketjumping?
It's TF but not. It's its own game, in terms of gameplay, art style, and much much more. It still has the class system but no more rambos, more team cohesion.

Re: Question: Rocketjumping?
You can use the Rocket/Grenade jump to reach the balcony on 2 Fort. Scouts can reach the balcony by running across the roof of the bridge (it's a covered bridge now). It's a good way to flank defenders but other classes can't follow you and without their help you're handicapped in ways unlike previous editions. If you just jump up there and run in alone you're doomed to die a horrible death under most circumstances but combined with an attack from the bottom and it's very effective.
Other then that there's quite a few odd locations you can reach with the jumps and on one map you can ambush the enemy before the preparation phase is complete. In rare occasions you can use the mechanic defensively.

Re: Question: Rocketjumping?
As a Scout, I noticed I get incredible air off of friendly and enemy explosions. Not sure if that's intended, but I have noticed it. Unfortunately, however, the fall usually kills me.
