Server #2: Map testing

This thread is here for the discussion of the new "direction" of Server 2.

The current map cycle can be found:
here

As said, I am open to any suggestions for new maps or the removal of certain maps. If the discussion gets too heated, we could always put it to a vote.

For astute observers, you may have noticed that ctf-well is on the server (and download area), but is not in the rotation. Having played the map, I've noticed serious issues with FPS drops and other smaller bugs. I haven't had the time to check for updated version, but as it sits right now, it's not a very workable map.

Anyways, discuss.

Re: Server #2: Map testing

So, the server has been running the following custom maps for the past week:

ctf_mach2
cp_castle
cp_avantiville_b3
ctf_stronghold_b5
cp_lazytown
cp_floodzone2_v6

Thoughts?

Mach2: I like this map. It's small, but still plays well with 22 players. Being small, it also focuses less on a one man push into the flag room and generally requires a coordinated effort in order to cap.

Castle: Needs work, but it's a fairly playable map. It has some issue with choke points that makes being on DF a lot easier, but I think it should stay.

Avantiville: It's avanti and a pretty good remake even if it does need a lot pf polishing work.

Stronghold: it's a smaller CTF map. People seem to hate it. I actually haven't even had the chance to play the b5 version.

Lazytown: Same thing, haven't had a chance to play it much.

Floodzone: This map has serious issues, albeit mainly with the players, rather than the map. Everyone wants to snipe or sit back and get kills, when really: 4 guys working together to attack can generally take the caps. I'm thinking on pulling it.

Re: Server #2: Map testing

I find avantville is not faithful to avanti. (The first time I played it I didn't realize it was an avanti remake until afterwards.) The first first and last points are harder to cap and the second point is easier. It's also fugly.

Castle is decent. Same with mach2.

Stronghold has some annoying bits but I think my main problem with it is that it doesn't play well unless the server is full which it rarely is for this map.

The other two I can't remember playing.

ctf_mach2 is one of my favorite maps now--3v3 and 11v11 are both incredibly fun.

Re: Server #2: Map testing

I've only really played Castle so far, but while it does favor defense (heavily), a properly coordinated attack can punch through. It takes a heck of a lot of effort, and expect to be chipping away for a while and dieing a lot, but it can be done. I think its pretty good, it really makes you work together if the other team is any good. If they're not, well, you'll roll them, just like any other map.
